Paddaman Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 How our Mont Aux Sources trio's prep going? We do not talk about it.......Started tapering, ie to lazy to get up and go run......Probably do some mileage this week and then rest next week. Andrew Steer and Lexx 2
SeaBee Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Since everybody is on the ITB bandwagon, I went the other way... Felt a slight tweak of it on my morning run, quite sore towards the end of the run. Now my Achilles is so sore I can hardly walk uphill and going up stairs requires not using your foot! Hopefully not too serious, will definitely rest a day or two and likely bike towards the end of the week and see what it feels like come the weekend. Not something I want to take any chances with.
RussD1 Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 (Topic change): Hi, I'm looking for some weekend-away races in 2018. Has anyone done any of the races at Aldam (Free State)? If so, what are they like? Well organized? Run on tar or gravel? Any input would be appreciated. Thanx. Russ.
ScottCM Posted August 30, 2017 Author Posted August 30, 2017 So after spending 2 and a half months doing stretching, hip exercises, icing, myofascial release, dry needling, hip alignment readjustment from the bio, chiro and physio, my ITB is better than it was but still not pain free. had to stop running on the treadmill this morning after 2km as the outside of the knee was hurting quite badly and the ITB was getting warm and sensitive, and i don't want to undo the progress so far. Now the question is, the Chiro said that seen as the alignment is done, the muscles have been attended to next step is chemical which means cortisone injections. now my question is, seen as its better than it was 10 weeks ago, should i wait another few weeks doing the stretching and icing etc and then take it from there or have i been patient long enough and should go for the injections? I'm never in favour of cortisone as I would rather do without running or whatever the activity is. I'm of the view that warming up properly(inclusive of the stretching routines) prior to the run will help more as it is still part of a natural process. I am up to 34km nonstop currently, still feeling niggles here and there but not enough to affect my run. This coming weekend I plan to cover a minimum of 36km, and if I feel good at that point I will push towards completing the full marathon distance. My pace will be nothing to write home about as I will only aim to run just under 6 minutes per km. So, stick to what you are currently doing and be patient. It's hard to do but you are not alone in this struggle. Andrew Steer 1
Andrew Steer Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Reckon that will be pretty awesome Always sad to break tradition, but got to move with the times I guess

Andrew Steer Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I reckon that is an extra km at least.....maybe 290km sounds more hardcore than 89km anyway Hacc 1
Ferret69 Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I reckon that is an extra km at least.....maybe 2 Rumour from a mate of mine at the Launch it adds 2.5kms to the 2018 down Run... Not a happy camper
Stretch Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 (edited) Rumour from a mate of mine at the Launch it adds 2.5kms to the 2018 down Run... Not a happy camper sounds about right that means a silver borderline needs to gain 12 minutes throughout the day...a bill rowan borderline 15 minutesand a vic clapham borderline close to 25 minutes HECTIC! Hacc Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 an additional 2.5 kms can take the back runners easily 20 minutes....
Jackes Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 90km sounds more hardcore than 89km anyway 92.5 if the 2.5 additional is true...
Jackes Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 (edited) "Runners can expect the same down-run route as 2016 - except for the last 8km - with a 12-hour cut-off" - @JamesRowyn Dave Jack @BlingKingSA 21m21 minutes ago @ComradesRace Final route run in to @MMStadium for #Comrades2018 not yet finalised but race distance expected to be approximately 89.2km. Mudsimus Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 (edited) 2.5km is hectic. How many people finish within the last 20minutes? Well they dont have to bother next year. Unless you start to physically and mentally prepare yourself. Edited August 30, 2017 by Mudsimus
