Entries for Mweni is cheap,

More like a steal, in comparison to the other trail races.    And this really puts to shame the profits the other guys make out of the trail races, real ripoffs in some cases....

R180.....

So the time has come to start planning races for January 2018. I have done Johnson Crane for 4 years now. As per my previous posts, I don't like the race. It is way too busy and too flat.

I am considering to rather do Ottosdal next year. Any comments about the race, has anyone done the cycling race in the morning? I am still contemplating if I am doing the 42 or just 21.

One day for the Hobbit as it is on a long weekend

Mweni will be a day to drive to KZN (drive back on sunday)

Rhodes will be two days before and two days after (family comes with)

Golden Gate will be the major challenge.

In all 6 days leave (excluding GG which will be another 4)

Entries for Mweni is cheap, Rhodes and Hobbit will be about 3K together.

The real expense is accommodation and travel

Ya- my racing calender is also more multisport biased which hikes up prices a fair amount:

So far next year-

Wartrail

Maybe EA

X-berg

Karkloof 100

Wolkberg

Side note:

Anyone running in Hoka One One's on trail? pros and cons?

Entered yesterday and booking the camping as we speak. R75 per person per night.  Really enjoy the atmosphere and a well organized race.   Lovely breakfast at the church the Sunday morning.

Friends of us did the cycle the morning and enjoyed it as well.

We downscaled to the 21 last year due to December laziness and loved that as well.  We will go for the 42 again next year, seeing that I'm not sure if I will make the qualifying marathon next month with the itbs that is starting to show it head again...

If too busy and too flat was your issue with Johnsons, you will not be dissapointed with this local small town race.   Very nice carnival atmosphere.

This seems like such an intriguing event. I saw the flyer for 2017, anyone know of details for 2018?

Where is the campsite and how for is it from the race?

where does one book the camp and enter the event?

Not a lot to go on but here goes:

1: have a good look at your shoes; do they still absorb shock in heel & forefoot? Are they excessively worn? Are they both worn the same?

2: have you increased running distance/duration/frequency/speed recently (last month/3 weeks)?

3: have you changed running surface recently (road to trail/ trail to road/ etc)?

I would suggest some exercises to strengthen your quads & hip flexors done regularly but not to exhaustion, and do shorter runs on level grass or jeep tracks for a week to 10 days. Mostly suspect worn shoes, or new shoes with excessive motion-control.

hope this helps

Here goes

Apr 36km

May 31km

Jun 51km

Jul 73km

Aug 82km

Sep 113km

For the week leading up to 32km (1st Oct) attempt I only did 8km. Interesting is that both my brooks Ghost shoes at around 250km of use my knees started to hurt.

I have a high arch maybe just replace the insole with high arch ones?

Everything is on their facebook page. It is 25 years in 2018, so it promises to go big...

Here is the programme and the entry forms. - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B_mySsQJLu4GdWFHRVpJb21jRnM

There is a few church ground campsites, all the bookings for this goes via Marie Tait as per the entry form.

The North church is the closest to the race start and is where the Sunday breakfast is also done.

The South church grounds is a bit further (in small town terms) and they have like a cement dam to swim in.   We stayed at the South one and was very happy with everything.

Wartrail! Wow that looks like a awesome event. Definitely on my one-day list. (But first I need a mtb bike.. and a canoe  :whistling: )

I have Hoka Challenger ATR 3's. I got them because they're basically Clifton 3's (which I love) with chunkier tread. Light, great cushion, not a lot of support - if thats a requirement, and fits a wider forefoot. I did a 3 day 100km trail in them and not a second of worry.

Also, the new Hoka Speedgoats are apparently amazing - and I think they look great in a ridiculous way.

Wartrail is like an Ironman triathlons's hairy chested, beer drinking, bare knuckle boxing brother.

I just pulled trigger on Speedgoat 2s so lets see...

And there we go guessing tshirt sizes again next year..... In fact, since we chose our sizes already with entry, I hope they are the same as NB...

Comrades Marathon signs a new Technical and Apparel partner for 3 years.

That's a big move from Mizuno... never had the footprint in SA they probably should have. Wasn't terribly impressed with the NB merchandise pricing, so happy days from my side.

Yeah, I don't know much about their apparel but they've got a cult following with their shoes so they must be doing something right. I personally don't care which brand is on the kit as long as it looks great and costs less than the actual race entry.

In this article they have stated that they wanted a partner who could offer an alternative range for the more budget - conscious end of the market which Mizuno is going to do.

It also says Comrades branded attire will be available at countrywide outlets throughout the year and not just at the expo and online.

So does this mean anyone can now buy Comrades branded attire even though you haven't completed one ?

Also don't know if it was freely available to anyone in past events.

and I now lose faith in humanity.  Image soon we will have supporters wear for comrades.

The real mcCoy is to only trust "limited edition race" race apparel or even worse trust only confirmed BMI assessments.
