Wow so havent been on the board for a while. Life gets in the way but Im still running. Overtrained a bit in Jan and picked up terrible knee pain. I lowered the milage and knee is almost back to normal.

Reason for my post is to share the antics of my local running buddies.

The links tell the story. I want to cry for missing out on the running part (knee was still shot)

I heard there was a guy who ran the Westcliff steps for 23 hours! (Joburg people will know the insanity of this)

It was 170 something ascents which equated to the height of Everest.

Raising money for something.

I wish I knew about these things, we would have joined for a while, given him a shout, or at least donated.

I guess it is similar to this:

Which is absolutely ridiculous - running it or riding it... I have a friend that is planning to ride Hillsnacks.

I see there is no South African on the running Hall of Fame yet...  :whistling:

That's 59 repeats of the Willow-Beech-Cliffside hill climb. Lordy!

(I thought I was Hardcore Henry when I did 8)

Has anyone successfully dealt with spca not responding to complaints of roaming dogs or dogs that can escape yards?

2019 events so far:
- first week of jan, chased by a jack russel climbing through palisades
- second week of jan, chased by a jack russel mix thing, climbed through gate
- last week of jan, bit on the foot by a pitbull/staffy/boerboel while cycling, the dog was outside the closed gate. Phoned nearest spca, getting hold of them was really difficult, doubt they responded at all.
- first week of feb, another pitbull/staffy/boerboel literally standing ON the boundary wall, staring at at lady that has been to scared to pass and she lives like 4 houses down. She jogged past with me, not scared of me wielding a thin hunting knife.

How do people deal with these situations? SPCA doesn't seem to respond to any reports and my pepper spray is running out quickly with all the loose dogs. The hunting knife is undesired, but it costs me nothing and is my preferred armament in a life threatening situations. How can I go about exercising in public space, but avoid having to injure animals or get injured?

I finally did my sub 4 marathon. Cutting it close, 3h58, but its still a sub 4 Can now ease into my Comrades training with no pressure. Good thing is that Im not nearly as sore as after my previous marathon.

Well Done Mudsimus

Don't spray pepper spray unless really necessary. Stand tall and wide and give the dog a big loud "hey!"

Hacc, How was your Jeppe half ?

My plan was to try and run until the 15km mark without walking the water points. Nausea usually sets in on uphills and because I haven't done Jeppe before I didn't know what to expect.

The first half of the route is very tough with some long drags. I had to dig really deep not to walk before the 15km mark. When I got to the 15km mark I felt ok and my running buddy suggested we stretch it to 17km. The Fat Cats bus came up behind us after we turned right onto Kloof road and they helped me to keep going. Luckily kilometers 18 and 19 was downhill. I took my first walk at the last uphill of the race. We walk for about 30 seconds and then continued on to the horrible grass section to the finish.

Overall a good day out for me. I am not close speed wise to where I should be but at the moment I need to mentally prepare myself for a marathon. 26 days to go to Kosmos...

Being members of the club who hosted the event, we weren't allowed to enter the event, although there were a few exceptions where certain members of our club were allowed to run.
