Were were a "gang" of four DT175 riders. My boet even had a Supertrapp exhaust on his. We managed the extend the rear travel with a piece of pipe and and fork extenders machined to increase the clearance up front. With a nice Ascerbis mudguard they almost looked like the YZ's.

Also the old RZ 500 was a potent thing..

This is one of those bikes that I'd love to ride, but I'd also have to work on my arm strength for like a year beforehand so that I can hold on when the powerband hits...

From what I've heard, that beast was designed with one purpose and that was to create widows.

Those 700's are apparently deadly. I have never had the "pleasure" of having a go but if opportunity came knocking I'd have to think long and hard about answering the door....

I believe that it was involved in a land speed record attempt for dirt bikes?

Not sure what happened though...

The 700 Maico  . Built especially to de-throne the BMW twins from the 700 or 750cc plus class in the ISDT; as it was then. I think the bike had a bit of variation in capacity.

Not such a hairy ride by all accounts - the dreaded Rick Siemen (Super Hunky of Dirt Bike infamy (RIP)) rode one for a test of sorts. In the Blackwater 100 if I recall correctly.  Google should help.

Locally in SA there is some madman intent on setting some speed record (I think) on a vintage 500 Husky 2 smoke.

It's too far gone to ever bring it back to original, but it wouldn't take much to turn it into this....
