Andymann Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Until you need to replace all 5 titanium valves you will. Then the relationship goes south very quickly.... Wannabe 1
Andymann Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I cant remember now the exact clearance between an open valve and the piston, but it was in the region of 10ths of a millimetre. But I do know that it didn't take much wear on the timing chain of a YZ450F to move the valve timing ever so slightly, just enough to change the valve timing, and send very expensive pieces of valve through the piston, onto the crank and into the gearbox...... Andymann Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I think the valves are about R1000 each (5off). If you are lucky you can rescue the head, but a big blow-up on a modern 4T MX bike will easily cost close to R25K. I could probably ship a YZ250 2T engine to Australia to be rebuilt by these guys https://www.facebook.com/TwoStrokePerformance?pnref=lhc for less than that..... Wannabe 1
Undun Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Hi Guys, I share your passion for big bore off road bikes, when I was a youngster this was the mx we watched. A few years back I was lucky to get my hands on this rare beast - a KTM550 She was a b&%&$ to start with the kick start on the left side but was great fun. http://i58.tinypic.com/5wxvef.jpg I sold her and and finally built up my dream bike - CR500 afc, Here she is: http://i60.tinypic.com/2088h08.jpgFAAAARRRRK, do you still have the Cr 500?How much?
Undun Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 It's a 2T so shouldn't kick you back. That supermoto looks like a monster. I remember reading about that one in a magazine in the UK. Looks like a beastBuddy , the older 2 strokes had a bit more compression if I recall compared to some of the new bikes. I may be wrong. That said I was riding since I could walk, the CR 500 in the late 90s kicked you back but as if to say have a broken leg Mister nice..We had to pull start it with a tractor on Gregs farm cause there were no Adults around to help us start it.. once we got going it was ON!!!!... The Uk has most of the sickest Super moto's out there..
Undun Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I've only ever been kicked by 4T's. Couldn't walk for days on one occasion...At least the 2T's let you ride them before hurting you. That's why I love compression clutch's.Even better Electric start:) ChUkKy 1

I was lucky enough to get most of the parts from the states when our currency was still worth something and the post office was still reliable. The donor bike:http://i57.tinypic.com/2j5h5f.jpg The donor motor was in peaces when I bought her so she was completely rebuilt with all new bearings, bolts, washers, gaskets, new balanced hot rod crank, new piston, new head and cylinder, new side covers, hydro clutch , gears and guides, clutch basket, oversize keihn PWK carb, Boyesen reed valves, over sized radiators and many more extras http://i62.tinypic.com/vyo8wi.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/2w56ipc.jpg The frame was modified for the motor to fit and to take standard off the shelf items like the pipe and silencer, plastics and standard tank and seat. http://i57.tinypic.com/335b38l.jpg Smaller tank for MX and grafix by Race Star.http://i59.tinypic.com/330d8k5.jpg She currently only has about 40 hrs run time and already 3 rear tires down.. Most of the guys mistake her for a older CRF450 until they taste what the rear tire can dish out.Lots of fun. Wannabe, Undun, cfcjim and 2 others 5

Wannabe Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Isnt that a 4T? That it is.In the absence of 2T's......
eddy Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Friday's won't be Friday's without some eye candy Ooooohhhh, that Husky I lusted after, but we would have been locked up (literally) for owning that picture in the 70s. nathrix 1
eddy Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 This is exactly what my first bike looked like. I commuted to Voortrekkerhoogte on it weekly, and played on it over the weekend before I got an IT400. When I came back from the border and klaared out, I converted to 4 stroke road bikes. All I have to remind me is the stiff ankle on winter mornings...... BSG, Undun, Spokey and 2 others 5
