Wally39 Posted August 30, 2015 Share Hey all A bit of an arb topic but the little buggers are out there and they are hungry. Went for a ride on the Helderberg yesterday and woke up with one of the critters latched onto my hand this morning. Best to check yourselves after a ride. Boerklong Posted August 30, 2015 Share I've had tick fever and malaria. Tick fever is right up there with the big boys with symptoms. *** experience Edited August 30, 2015 by Boerklong
CogitoErgoSum Posted August 30, 2015 Share Ja. Had tick bite fever also. Not lekker, definitely not lekker. From my experience ( I am regularly in the veld), shaving your legs doesn't give the little bastards the ability to crawl up. And they do prefer dark warm places.... Falco Posted August 30, 2015 Share Any home remedies for keeping them off? Eat lots of garlic. Won't make you popular with your friends, but ticks don't like it.

watsonr Posted August 30, 2015 Share I mix tabard with my sunscreen. Been doing it for years on the golf course and bike. Also keeps the flies away. Uni, HDW, No Hare and 1 other
No Hare Posted August 30, 2015 Share Even spray tabard on your clothing, little bastards will drop quicker (before reaching the skin) and cannot hide in the folds clothing.

V12man Posted September 2, 2015 Share Peaceful sleep stick under sunblock. ALWAYS check every nook and cranny after a ride in the bush. If you do find one - then don't pull it out and risk breaking the head off (thus increasing your risk of rickettsia (tick bite fever)) - rather gently cover the whole tick with vaseline (be generous), and it will withdraw the head, then you can remove it - this takes some vasbyt to be patient enough, but it's worth it.
