Watch on a budget

I have/had a digital watch with heart rate monitor, whose strap has given up the ghost.

I could replace the strap but thought I would ask what the cheapest watch is that would satisfy these requirements:

  • Tell the time :whistling:  :D
  • Water resistant, not diving or anything, it but normal swimming
  • Heart Rate
  • GPS Tracking
  • Current Speed
  • Distance traveled.

Yes I would like a Garmin Fenix 3 but waaaaaaaay out of my budget.

Thanx

You can pick up a decent Garmin 910XT which satisfies all your requirements and more in the classifieds. My first ever watch that I used which I borrowed from a friend was that and I thought it was phenomenal.

Hope this helps somewhat

910 does not work really well as a watch - even for a few days at a time.

Maybe a Fenix 1 or 2? they are around and relatively inexpensive.

I've never really tried a Polar or TomTom but I've been told that the polar especially the V800 model(could be wrong on the model number) is good. Any opinions on those brands? The only reason that I got myself a 920xt is only really because of the Garmin backing

I have the polar M400 it works really well, and the app works

great too. Never checked if it has current speed though if it does I've not used it.

"Budget" is very relative. I bought a secondhand Suunto Ambit 2 (not the sport version) for below 3k here in the classifieds.

It works excellent for running, cycling and swimming (in that order) amongst other sports. You can also wear it as a watch (by doesn't quite have that Fenix appeal). The only downside is data transfer via cablr only...

Oh and this second hand watch still has more than 90% of the battery life.

So have a look through the classifieds. Don't go to old though - battery replacements (except for most Polar watches) can be very $$$.

Also, have a look at dcrainmaker.com - very comprehensive sports watch review site.

Sorry for hi-jack have been looking at watches but purely for cycling with gps.

But basic ,distance ,ave speed,elevation.

But must be comfortable I have small wrists so don't want heavy and chunky.

To throw the cat amongst the pigeons.

I had the V800---- I GAVE IT AWAY. i thought it was such rubbish i actually felt bad selling it.

My wife had the M400 - its sitting in a draw gathering dust...she uses my old 920XT.

I will not use any product other than garmin. I have the Fenix 3 sapphire. But honestly, i used to have a fenix 1. It was great.

I would suggest a second hand fenix 2 for what you are asking it to do, I agree completely with V12Man.
