I know the Rand is up to sh!t, but Niner (whether SA or international) are pulling the ring out of it. Like Ryan said, price point vs build spec does not add up.

Alas, to each his own. If there are guys out there who are stupid enough to pay over R50k for a rigid hardtail just because it's a Niner, then that's their loss and Niner SA's gain.

And you'd know. R15.5k for a Codeine frameset with awesome suspension vs nearly double that for what, heritage? Or R18k-R20k for a Pascoe set.

Sorry,but no.

Put me on the spot a little  . I've taken part in this particular thread as a Niner fan and have no personal business agenda here. Frankly, anyone who is attempting to bring some great brands into the country deserves some kudos in my book. But, yeah, some tough competition out there. Given the brand and who I perceive as potential buyers, good frame set deals will succeed.

Let's try offer kudos where deserved and some constructive criticism where needed. I'm sure the Niner SA lads will take note.

All the best to the guys on their venture.

Wasn't meant to plug you, sorry.  Just that's the reality regarding reference and context.

Grateful for the comment. Just wanted to clear my intentions here.

Excellent website - great to see prices!

Any chance of more custom options - e.g. dropper posts on jet 9's, wheel upgrades, cockpit upgrades/options etc?

Hi Nimby,

We can do some changes at factory level, but with the star ratings already being favourable we haven't made the ability to 'build your bike' on the site. Please mail us if you are wanting to do something a little more custom and we can cost that for you.

Cheers,

Team Niner

Had a quick look on the website.

Daylight robbery happening right here: http://niner.co.za/product-category/ros-9-plus/

I get that the bikes have a chro-mo frame and fork and the new GX/XT 1X11 drivetrain, but the prices are impossible to justify.

Unfortunately with the exchange rate the way it is, you will find that when all the manufacturers bring out their new pricing, ours will be 'softer on the eye' :)

Agreed. Can't help think they're missing the mark (or an additional considerable mark) not making framesets readily available...

Framesets are readily available and will be on the site in the next few days.

Globally, niner has shifted from a frame brand to a bike brand.

for the more custom fan, the frames will be available, and as mentioned in a previous post, we will customise (within reason) at factory level for a consumer.

Calling YT and Canyon! Come show us how buy direct should be done!

Seriously, the bike industry can get in the f'ing sea.

Hi Nico,

As mentioned in a few posts, the ZAR and USD don't mix well and its taking a hammering. Our direct to market pricing will be appreciated as more manufacturers and retailers bring out there pricing.

With that said, we have kept our pricing as in-line with the US pricing, which is no mean feat, considering this is what's done by a consumer when they researching.

With regards to YT and Canyon, we can never compare ourselves to other countries and pricing, but party of the process was to look at costing a bike as a consumer to get a Canyon to SA, so worth noting is:

You need to pay 15% duties on that price, as they are complete.

You need to fly it in if you want it straight away (trust us, this is costly).

All the costs associated with shipping are in USD.

You pay VAT on landing it here.

When you take that into account, suddenly, its not the price you see converted to ZAR.

We just wanting to get niner into the place it should be, on top and we know that the pricing and volatility of the rand will find itself over the next few months and be appreciated.

Cheers,

Value is never as simple as just component listing. Just saying

Case and point

Bought one with a whisky fork....shipping alone from Arizona was 4500 zars. I won't mention the total cost for the frameset. Best money I have ever spent

One thing i don't understand is the Online and dealer structure working together.. Surely the reason you sell direct is to either make more profit yourself OR get the price of the bikes to be competitive (cutting out the dealer mark up)

Obviously you give your dealers a discount on the RRP and then technically they sell the bike at RRP otherwise the consumer would just buy direct. And you promise to your dealers that you wont undercut them on pricing.

What happens when you have sales? or discounts ? like your launch discounts.. do you still offer the dealer a discount on those offers?

If you do, then i would encourage everyone to just order through their local LBS (or your dealers) because technically you shouldn't be paying anymore than direct and would be building a good relationship with a shop which would be more inclined to help you out in "those" situations (you know, the friday afternoon glitch and i'm racing saturday morning situations)
