It's been a rule for years now.

You'll have to just cover the guns and only look kief during training now. Don't forget to accompany said vest with secret socks ONLY.

I think very thick gold chains are still allowed though.

... its called sun block...

and why aren’t we then forced to wear long sleeved shirts and pants? if your shoulder burns, your arm will burn as well... that does not make sense too me...

What really cheesed me off more about this...

I rode the Ashburton Dullstroom Marathon on Saturday, (sleeveless as usual) and the only comment that was made in the starting pen is... "aren’t you cold"?

then yesterday my wife was personally taken on in the starting pen of the FUN RIDE because she was not wearing sleeves....

They have discussed this rule a few years ago and if I remember correctly they said it's for the safety of the rider that they have the rule in place.

I say it's a BS story and that it's only to keep sleeveless jerseys out of cycling because they have an image to uphold. There is no way that a sleeved jersey will offer more protection when a rider goes down than a sleeveless one.

They enforce the rule at some races and others not, it's never consistent.

The extract is from the UCI's rules and regulations for rider apparel. Hence the requirement at MTB races. It is definitely not enforced consistently though.

I'm sure it's for image, but....

I was once in a bunch with a big hairy guy riding sleeveless in a race on a sunny day & it was a constant salty shower around him.

Eeuuuwwwww... just thinking about it.

its not for you to understand but for you to follow.

I assume that race organizers don't trust the masses to put on sunblock and therefore have rules like this to protect them from themselves!

I remember the guy at the trailseeker reading it out over 3 years ago.

But is it just me or is the indignation justified? I mean it's just a shirt with sleeves ........ will it make you slower or affect your standing in the community ....

Not wanting to fight but why is it such a big deal?

In a nutshell, for the image of cycling.

It looks toss...

There can't be separate rules and enforcement thereof for racing classes, open classes, and fun rider categories.

It's a rule for the top levels of the sport, and trickles down through the rest.

Agreed, there's a lot of inconsistency in the enforcement., but hey, now you and your wife know the rule and wont do it, so does everyone reading this thread who didn't know, as well as the rest of the people you've complained about this to/in front of...

Same for the VA story yesterday.

I know I wont cross the line, and i'll point out to anyone in the bunch that theyre going to get us all DQ's if they don't stop doing it, and hey, maybe soon nobody will do it anymore because of what happened...

And why if it is not allowed, is a leading SA manufacturer still selling these shirts?

If its not for sale, no one would wear it...

Again, wear it to your heart's content in a spinning class, just don't race in it...

Finished en klaar...

Because triathletes can use it? And its not illegal to train with them?

Yep, it is a stupid rule, and there is no convincing reason for it - most would agree with you.

And 99% of events you will get away with wearing a sleeveless shirt.

But it's been around for a few years now and every now and then you will get an over-zealous official enforcing it - so if it is THAT important to you to wear sleeveless it's a risk you must live with.
