There was also a drowning at reservoir last week Thursday i think it was...

If you were to ask me, pass these places where both these incidents took place daily, the reservoir is busy daily with atleast 50 people. I think there’s been quite a bit of traffic of all kinds, quite a few characters that are looking for trouble.

WYAF is happening!!!??? This after the attack above St James two weeks ago and a "promise" to "investigate"....I've just grounded my daughter who loves getting out on the hill... :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:

And it takes someone like Dale Steyn to voice his concern to get a response...JHC man, wots going on?

Sad to hear about this, my major reason for sticking to the tar.

I hear you but in fact those tarred areas are also shrinking...one of the Rhodes attacks took place within yards of the tar from all reports.

During the week, or last week a group was also mugged up above muizenberg on the hiking trails. Total chaos out there.

not much safer.  Not far from the stabbing place on Boyes Drive, roadies were hit too (albeit on MTBs).   Also once helped a guy in Hout Bay who was hit off his bike, and we've heard about the stuff near Burgundy Estate.   Not safer at all.

In a few weeks The Epic will be using the mountain.Wonder what security measures will be in place to secure spectators and riders.Imagine Nino's bike getting jacked on International TV.

Thought of watching from different points along the route ,but will stick to spectator points only

Another senseless killing, a life lost and other lives destroyed. This MO scares me, that the perps joined in a hike and then attacked them en route. This could easily happen on a group ride as well.

Thanks for the heads up Meezo. Sadly the Rhodes area is in my backyard and my boys & I ride there all the time. Just renewed our 3 acticity cards for R1010 on the dot. Makes me wonder when last I saw a ranger patrollong there......long time. We will stick together for safety but we’ll keep riding.

Btw, for those not in the know- the 1 Rhodes attack happened within a stones throw from the Table Mtn Ntl park offices at Mt Pleasant

Not sure that it's work with a group ride. Pretty sure you couldn't steal a bike and escape with 2 bikes and also you'd have to be pretty bike savvy or a rider to fit in, keep up and not look out of place.

Exactly this, ok humble brag here, but table mountain and rhodes mem is part of my daily commute, i spend atleast 5 days a week on it.

Over the last 3-4 years i can count on my 1 hand I’ve seen a ranger, and he most of the time it’s not a good encounter. Twice was due to a fall and they had to be called out.

I still continue to use it as my commute, and try and radio in any suspicious activity i do come across.

As said earlier that reservoir of late has brought numbers and some really shady characters. It’s a concern which i assume even after a few drownings SANParks wouldn’t worry.

Because of this I’m not shy to say I renewed my wild card for tokai!

That dam belongs to uct as far as I know. It has always been strictly out of bounds because it is not a safe swimming venue. As uct and other public pools closed, it became popular with the students. Soon it attracted parties and the dodgy element flollowed. Not surprized. Saw they tried closing the holes with razor wire. Just a joke.

Nothing will keep them out except regular patrols. And we know that is not sustainable.

Very sad to hear.

I was mugged at gunpoint once and know that there is nothing you can do. My martial arts training kicked in and told me to remain calm and listen to the attacker. There was a brief moment when the attacker looked over his shoulder at which point I wanted to grab the gun and elbow him in the jaw. But then my common sensed kicked in and said your items are not worth your life.

Good job on staying calm and focused.
