Hey Grant,

Sad to know you must probably be the only one on this thread that dont know my real name. I have had dinner parties at some on here's houses, dated one, rode fun trails with others...I guess because most people on here are maybe just more chilled and friendly so pretty cool to hang out with actually :)

You forgot about "looked after peoples kids" and "been visited in hospital by half of hubland", borrowed kit and ride in other peoples freebees.. and several others I forget - none of which are important... EXCEPT - you still have to get Patches to wear a Lycra cycling shirt...

who is keen to help sweep Section B to get it back on the original line with the up line cleaned up so it can be used.

I have a spaz arm at the moment so the best I can do is mark out where the trail originally went.

People who cant make the corners keep on riding it straight.

I tried marking it a few years ago but when people are on bikes they forget how to read signs

Botanical garden.. how the hell does one get to ride in a botanical garden?? Maybe, sometimes one should just be happy with the stuff you have and not bemoan the fact that it is shared with others. Hells bells, a botanical garden of all places.

Title is a bit misleading. He is referring to Emmarentia Park. The Botanical garden is situated within the park, but you cant cycle through it, and no one does.

But I get what you are saying. The park is a stunning 81 hectares of rolling grass hills, woodlands, wetlands, and dams. Whats not to like!

You do get to ride the boundary of the bot garden through a woodland full of podocarpus.

When you have no other options...

I'm not going to go the full CleatsandCleavage "this is an insult to my sport" route but we in the cape forget how priviledged we are to have awesome trails minutes away from our home.

That said - I enjoyed the one chance I had to ride the Botanical Gardens - I'm sure I even did it anti-clockwise!

hahaha, yes we don't have much in the way of gradient here in JHB, but fortunately the botanical gardens are a small part of the greater picture, They're connected to the Spruit which can offer another 50km+ worth of trail, with a number of fun sections (berms, jumps, drops etc).

It ain't no Tokai or Jonkers, but for what it is (an urban greenbelt in the centre of the city, open to riders at no cost, and conveniently situated to most)... it's not too shabby for a mid-week ride.

...and after some nice additions from faeries and JUMA organisers, AND convenience as I need about 1.5km from my house to dropping in at Victory Park, probably my favourite place to ride at the mo!

Looking at Gary's pic above I have no choice but to agree wholeheartedly with you.

People making use of that trail need to be conscious of the situation and tread lightly, especially if there is no agreement in place (whether formal or informal) because if you don't  have the support of an individual in a position of influence to support or recommend your case, a dispute may bring about the question on continued use.

Sadly many don't take this view into account, blindly believing that trail access on a bike is their right..

yahtzeeeeee! hence my comments against that other bloke....1 incident will spoil it for everyone since its a concession not a right.

We shouldn't make it something its not...its not a bikepark, its not hardcore, its not race track. There are places for those type of riding. Its a coffe ride

Actually  ;) ... quite a few do, just between the hedge and fence, as well as a number of runners. Using the same entrance at the main gate, which dog walkers also use who shouldn't be, nor cyclists actually.

Ideally though this keeps runner/cycling traffic away from the actual botanical section and walk way.

The curator is aware of it and there are discussions with fairies, JCP, council and co to reach a solution as a shared space.

On that note, despite grant and sidewinders protestations of common sense and entitlement they have vokal mandate actually to enforce anything because of how THEY see it working and screw everyone else.

Plenty people have pitched in work on the 'trails' routes, no one actually has any bigger claim than anyone else. Like the rest of the Spruit it's a public green belt and a shared space, not a trail park.

And grant, most people using the Spruit or Emmerentia etc aren't on The Hub or even know of it, so unfortunately the 'influence' will be a bit lost.
