This will be the first time in 13 consecutive years that I am not going down for the CTCT. This is mainly due to financial constraints. A trip down to Cape Town usually costs me in excess of R10K, which is just too much for me at this stage. That Sunday morning I will probably be doing an early morning ride with my son in spirit with all those fortunate enough to take part this year. Good luck to all, irrespective whether you are there for a PB, or just for the fun and beauty of the scenery like I always do. I usually try to get value for my money and do it in 5 hours or more.

Not sure where I would fall in then. I like to consider myself a cyclist. I ride for the enjoyment of it. Nothing beats the thrill of seeing how fast you can go downhill on your road bike or the achievement of completely a technical piece of single track.

please refer to page 36 of the Argus magazine

Ok, so that proves multiple sub 3's and evidence of a gifted cyclist. Now please post photo's of finish with MTB (with knobblies of course)

Oh dear.

Clearly you need to get out more and learn about the people who ride bikes around Cape Town. There are not many days you can ride around the Peninsula without being passed by @BillyMTBoy.

how difficult is CTCT compared to 94.7?

This is my first ride (I'm more of a weekend warrior)

It doesn't get easier. You just go faster if there is less climbing or less altitude.

Good way to get a few more followers. Well at least one, that is me.

So a friend of mine cant race anymore. I have advertised his entry in the classifieds. What exactly is required for a substitution? His details? His seeding email?

he must

login > release entry > sign letter from subsitute'ee > and start training for next year

Cool Thanks. Ja shame it was going to be his first but unplanned medical bills for his lightie took a chunk out of his holiday money. He was planning to go down alone for the weekend and then a week later during the school holidays go away with the family to the wilderness. luckily they still going to the wilderness.

Anyone crack an invite to the PPA start group 0745?

Would've been an improvement on my start time.

Wonder what some of the fortunate one's motivation letters were...

So how many of you wave and shout at the crowds? I love doing that, also do it on 2oceans and the feedback you get from them is great. They don't really expect it from the crowd I ride in (sub 3:30 / sub 4:00) so it really is a lot of fun.

Give it a try, after all this is a rather easy ride through some scenic places.

My boys' starting time is an hour later than mine........oh, what to do?

Wait for them? Last year they didn't wait for me, the little blighters! Start with them? Leave them to their own devices? They are 15 and 16 and have done 4 Arguses each so they know how to handle it. Perhaps it is time to let them fly on their own? Besides, they form a formidable pair if they gang up on you. Or ride with DJR Senior who starts a half hour after me? That's always special! Or do another team DJR start to finish "one for all, all for one" ride?

Decisions decisions! Great stuff, choices! Don't you think!?

I let my son ride on his own for the last 4  CTCT (ok 3 Argus and 1 CTCT) . he was 15 when he went on his own .. i rode his fiorst 2 with him (given he was sick for his second so he missed out) and after that he had a better start than me and said ... Dad catch me ... lol ... he still has a better start than me ...

So now i ride with my other son. It will be his second (Age 13) and if he is anything like his older brother .. he will have a better start than me next year.. Im already told when we going up Suikerbossie .. faster dad ...

So let them ride on there own ... they have the experience of 4 CTCT behind them and enjoy a nice ride with DJR senior .. lekka slow Sunday morning ride round the peninsula ...

Just my 2c worth .... (dont think that they even mint them any more ... so my 1M Zim dollars worth ... lol )

either way.. its gonna be a nice day out with hopefully 35 000 other like minded people ,,, (there is always the exception )

I wave and shout at the crowd ... they enjoy it when we respond to them ... :) im no where close to a sub 4 group .. but on CTCT everybody thing they the fastest ...

Oh i took pics on Stellenbosch Cycle tour .. and what i did not expect .. was someone from the elite bunch wave and give me a thumbs up at the top of Hells hoogte .. was pleasantly surprised by that ..

On oceans .... i do the same .... even stop for pics ... lol .. and just make cut off :)

I save that for my second lap, my worst is when you are flying at 55km/h past UCT and okes think its a good idea to wave and shout to the fans, which always ends up with a wobble and a touch of wheels.

I don't care who you are, please keep both your hands on the bars and concentrate until Smitswinkel at least...

In 2014 I did my first Argus. That section where the Coloured community live next to the route, and they bang their drums, play Ghetto blasters and offer booze was quite a hose and just shows what lekke people we have in this country. Off course the youngster at Suikerbossie who pushed me up the hill just to swipe the joob-joobs (sweets) from pockets was an even better laugh. I did not need a push so I thought he was just putting up a show, meanwhile...... Good times, really looking forward to this one.

Yep its a 7:40 start .. all of 35 minutes later than my original start time of 7:05 ....

BUT my 13 year old son also got in ... and it 2 hours earlier than his original start of 9:36 (ok almost 2 hours)

which means .. we not chasing cut offs ...

that motivation  ,,,, well ...thats a whole different story .. and it probably depends on who is reading it as well. .... i am very fortunate to get 2 spots 2 years in a row :) ...
