I've noticed that from 1D - K the start times is only 90 sec, and then from 2A again it is 3 mins. Any particular reason for these small time gaps?

The groups were a bit smaller last time.  The gaps have actually increased since two years ago.  That year I started in C and I'm sure we started 1 minute behind B.  We caught them before Hospital Bend (it's impossible to resist a chase like that) and after that it was just one big group.

It's not ideal, but it's better than twice as many people starting 3 minutes apart.

I remember, I was at the back of B, group C started before I even crossed the starting line. What a mess, pure luck that there wasn't a massive crash that day!

Your chip and your number.  If you (like me and everybody else I know) don't yet have a number, I imagine you'll get it between now and tomorrow, by email and SMS.

If you don't yet know your number by the time you arrive you can go to the Racetec or enquiries stand and they'll be able to look it up, but there may be quite a queue.

Did you not receive an e-mail from CTCT with your start batch?

If you did, your number is there underneath your start batch and time.

So it is vital to be at the start quite early to be in the front.

My second goal is not to be caught by the group behind, but I guess it's gonna be difficult with these small time gaps.

I remember that

That was one big party at speed

Did a few bunny hops onto and off Simonstown sidewalks later on as a result.

The other option is to do it on your mtb and just ride over the grass between your holding area and the start line with all the road bikes keep to the bricks/road...tubeless FTW

Just had a look at the results from the Carnival City race and I can't see a single big name (Pro) in the elite's so unless I'm missing something you can't remotely compare.

Not sure where they were all hiding, maybe doing the PPA tour?

Edit: Just realized they were all having a rest before the Tour of Good Hope

Almost everyone was there, but they didn't use the timing chip.

I won't mention the never-ending fight over no-chip, no time, no result.

Edit:

38 had a chip

31 did not

May be so but it happened last year as well. I'm not sure what the times where like compared to last year. Would be interesting to see if the winning time this year was a lot slower.

But TBH the VA bunch had an attack on the start line from Egon and you simply can't let a guy like him go. It was a very fast first hour. When you are the likes of clover and complete going full tilt to catch him you know it's going to be quick. As soon as we caught him the counters started. You might find the elite attacks only happened once we caught them.

Last year the Elites rode 165km, so it could be fair to let them take it easy(ish).

Funny enough, 2014 the gaps were 8 minutes between Elites (160km) as well as between VA and VB. Except the Elites stayed well clear and VA fimished 5 minutes faster than VB.

Edit: sorry for the hijack on the FunRide WC thread
