Interesting day out today. Bummed to say the least. Started in 2B and was like an F1 start which split up Edinburgh only to regroup there after. Stayed as a huge group coming up to Simonstown where some 2C riders caught us and we cought some of 2A. Fast and furious with a group too large for the narrowing road. Handles clashed some got hooked and 4 of us went down at speed. Race over, frame broken in 2 places, RD bent and spent the rest of the day in hospital confirming broken collar bone ... hoping for a quick recovery!

Eish!

Heal up well, shaper.  -_-

What a perfect day. I rode for 3:15 so that I could do the second lap. Got 3:03. On the second I helped a guy into Simonstown. Stopped and had an Esspresso and chocolate cake in a Pastry shop. Then hooked up with a lady that was trying to reel in her sister and ride under 5h. I stayed with her all the way paying it forward. Pushed the Save the Rhino up Suikerbossie. Swore at the moron that pushed his skateboard into the cyclists (and ran after it) on the decent and pulled the lady to a 4:45. Magic day!

PS: I REALLY REALLY feel for you Dale.

Race of 2 halves for me today.

Absolutely DEAD legs first and kept going backwards on the hills.

Climbed chappies and suikerbos so much better and put in some mega pulls after suikerbos.

Ended up totally spent but the first half was just not good enough to get me under 3.

Finished with 3:07 and some change.

Happy to not have gone down today. Lots of close calls.

Damn, that is intense.

Glad you find humour there, man.

May your recovery be fully and quickly.

Hard luck Dale, sad about the hoops but parts are just parts, glad you escaped unhurt.

Spokes and Sharper I hope you guys heal up soon. Getting injured sucks even if they make for good war stories.

Rolled out with 2A and finished 3:07. It was a fast bunch for sure and my legs were screaming for the finish line. A good day in the saddle! Thanks to all that put in the hard work.

That's racing, its gona happen again at some point. I just get pissed off when it's avoidable.

The guys who normally race Elite all know there place in the bunch which makes the racing alot safer.

The only way to have an all out elite ladies race would be to start them 20-30 mins before the elite men. It is "ladies first" anyway

Race for half an hour in the dark??? [emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]

Great day out, saw something new this year, bike parked in the sun in the bike park blew its's tubby, went off like a cannon shot, and broke the carbon rim

Haven't heard anything that loud since I accidentally unscrewed a full bomb from my CO2 inflator!!

1E were a bunch of nervous wrecks. Completely my fault for constantly hanging around in the 2nd half of the bunch but surviving without a major bunch crunch was a miracle. Having names on our numbers was funny - guys hurling abuse with names included :w00t:

Was it "Klyde" who started in my group? He also did ToGH.

That guy puts in one hellova pull time after time and just when you think his off to go puff out his last breath he comes back with a strungout following on his wheel.

All yster I must say.

That oke, Klyde he goes on the front till he pops, we have been trying to teach him moderation and finesse, lost on him. He just hammers.

He is training for DC 2016 :P

It was crazy in the elites but i managed to stay upright. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet spoke but I think we were close to each other as I was lucky and just managed to get around on the left. I stuck with the bunch up to chappies but started to far back and could move up I even rode in a small group with one of team savages riders. I hope everyone that crashed heals up soon.

Why are you guys at the sharp end so nasty with each other, swearing and riding into each other?  :whistling:

Feeling absolutely dejected. Trained so hard for a freaking year to get me to beat 3:30 for the first time and then picked up a stomach bug the week of the argus. I thought I felt good yesterday and this morning but clearly I was deceiving myself. Legs started twitching just before smits and then entire quads cramped at soetwater. I then had to take it easier for the rest of the race. Clearly lost too much fluids these past couple of days and never replaced those electrolytes.

Absolutely gutted.

Same here. Despite handfuls of Rennies and Crampblock's had to visit the medical tents twice for massages due to cramps. Thanks to those ladies for a wonderful job! Was still a privilege to take part though.

I must say on the second lap I saw a lot of random crashes, like on a straight downhill massive pile up. Chappies was even worse, 5 sweeper vehicles and then a lady piles into sweeper vehicle after marshal with loud speaker shouting at her and it having flashing lights.

Also saw a lot more mechanicals in the 1A group. Chain drops, rear mechs eating back wheels etc. strange

The cycling gods were on my side today:

  • On the fast descent to Misty Cliffs, guy next to me told me to shift to the small ring at the front. I had no idea what he was on about until I looked down and noticed my chain had dropped off and was hanging down around my pedal. Shifted to small chain ring and it popped back on! Learnt something new today. If he hadn't said anything I probably would have stopped to sort the chain out. A huge thank you to the guy in red with the skull and crossbones cycling shirt
  • Broke a spoke, after the finish line
  • Did a PB of 3:24

Sounds like a good save! Cool.

Ja he got caught out on the left at the mall, then also too far back. A great time and a great learning experience.
