It was a nice hard race. My first one. Me and a friend did alot of pace making in the b bunch. We were in the second group of b bunch and most of the guys did their turn. I worked hard rhe whole race and at that last klimb before Stellenbosch my chain dropped and I had to stop to put it back on. I finished 2 min after the bunch.

To the assholes that called me some names when my chain dropped, screw you. You sit in the bunch the whole day and only wake up un the end. Calling someone a idiot was really uncalled for.

No Pansy, you didn't finish with the C-D bunch. You and all your buddies got dropped going up Helshoogte ;)

A word of advice - a 10 man breakaway might seem like a good idea from the top of Helshoogte, but in reality it's 165kms of hoping that there is just one more turn left in the legs.

Well done Velouria, thought the pace up Helz was quite manageable but then you Hot Chillee guys HAD to come flying past and spoil things for the sucky climbers among us   :cursing:

For the rest of the ride the pace was pretty tame, the group happy to let 5 or 6 okes do the work up front for most of the race and then race like champs the last few kilometers to claim 7th spot in Group C.

More or less the same thing happened last week at the west coast express, guess I'm just to dumb to understand funride tactics

That said - One Tonner is one of my fav road races, always a proper challenge, 170km on the bike in the heat & wind will always be tough, for everyone from the racing snakes to the backmarkers.

You clearly have not attempted to ride on your limit in a functional paceline, that maintains a constant work rate, rather than surges and stops.

Bro, I'm a fun rider, I ride for the pleasure of riding a bike and seeing the world around me. What you describe does not sound like fun - but I get that some people enjoy it so each to their own I suppose.

My ride was nice and solid and I'm happy with my 5h30 time. I did some pulling in a pace line after Botmanskloof and while I have pushed myself to the limit I try to avoid doing it. Thing is, when I am done with a ride I like to feel alive, not tired and sleepy.

Strange... so is there anyone else that found this to be a nice long funride? Just me?

It depends how fast you go ????????

(Even a 90 min 50er can be hell)

There was even some f words in front of the idiot.

Nee man. :excl:

My interest is spiked because that's where I roll (absent yesterday).

Really uncool from the B club

Have never heard of that before, only when someone's front wheel nearly gets switched or something.

Was caught up in the big A-bunch fall at around 65-70km in. Fell bad but managed to continue until around the 100km mark where three successive punctures ended my race.

Maybe the extra 7 km were just to much, tiredness can get ugly!

I didn't realize 10 of you got a way, thought it was just you and Craig stupid enough to try and pull a stunt like that. I'm 10th in the C-D bunch and about 5 guys finished before in from the main bunch so you guys must've lost 5 guys Velouria? anyways, you guys are clearly in a league of your own, respect!

I also punctured three times yesterday. The punctures seemed like it was caused by thorns. I also saw quite a lot of others fixing punctures along the way. This was my first race to see so many peeps fixing punctures. Actually researching park tool's glue-less  GP super patch kit. Waiting for glue to dry is like watching and waiting for a kettle of water to boil. Can any1 comment/recommend any glue-less repair patches? or do I need to work on patience and save a few rands?

Normal patch/solution takes about 30 seconds in yesterday's heat, the less solution you put on the stronger it is (and dries quicker).  and remember not to remove the plastic "wrap" on  top of the patch, it prevents the tyre from rubbing the patch off. (a thing I was always taught to remove until I read instructions and now I always have good patches that last)

I just took 2 spare tubes and luckily only needed one, no idea what caused my puncture, there just hole in tyre where what ever went in/out.. the hole more a "cut" than round puncture, so would guess piece glass.

We looked around, saw we had a gap, thought "what the hell - how bad could it be" and off we went. Caught discarded riders all day long, some stuck around longer than others, but with 10kms to go we were down to 5 or 6. My legs took one look at that last hill on the R44 and promptly exploded! Longest 5kms ever...
