Science says massage may not be worth the expense

One of those cases where a small study is done, different results than expected, media inflates the findings, people on forums weigh in with their opinions...

Would like to see the actual study rather than a report (on a cycling site no less) about the study.

Academics are incentivised to publish papers. These papers don't have to be right, they just have to be published. More papers published = more funding

There's a lot of dodgy science as a result

Yep, thats our model... And anyone with an opinion can join in! Come roll in the dollars with us!

Massage isn't going to do squat for a major injury. It will aid in maintaining flexibility and help reduce scar tissue formation and this most doctors acknowledge. It's not allowing faster healing just assisting the process.

For more rapid healing you need more oxygen

For more rapid healing you also need better pain management. It's probably the most overlooked factor in sports injuries - a painful muscle/joint/ligament heals a lot slower than one where the pain is managed.

Tried it and experienced the same results as the recreational runners mentioned in the article.

It works better if you remove the campag leg warmers

I know of certain massage techniques that result in the stiffening of muscle tissue.

THAT piece is NOT a muscle.... :)

Although there is a muscle attatched to it... (sort of) called the cremaster muscle... Few people have voluntary control over it...
