Did you win the euro lottery?

That would be nice!  Sadly not.  I did find R2 the other day when climbing out my car but it could have fallen out of my own pocket.  Still - I'm claiming it.

Singletrack - Stellies, Somerset West, Paarl.

Chicks - Stellies, SW, Paarl - Stellies has an amazing system where a new batch of farm fresh daughters arrives every January.

Financially - You'll get a lot more for your ZAR in Somerset West. Stellies can't really expand more due to legislation inhibiting the conversion of farms and the varsity is growing.

If you under 30 with no kids, Stellies is the Promised Land, if you have kids and need schools, perhaps SW or the "Pair'el"

Sounds like Somerset West is becoming the East Rand by the sea.

Commute to work - far quicker, and definitely better for the soul. As for toll gates on our trails - the Wannabees have already done that ;p

Hi

Paarl is a good option.

It's close to Cape Town. You can get there within an hour if the traffic is not to bad.

We have excellent schools in Paarl - Boys' High, Gim, Girls' High, La Rochelle and Boland Landbouskool.

Property in Paarl is cheaper than Stellenbosch (as an rule of thumb)

We have Rhebokskloof on our doorstep. There is Paarlberg which has got some nice gravel roads.

Welvanpas in Wellington is close by. We also have nice district/gravel roads in the area.

An added bonus is the amount of excellent wine cellars in the aera. Paarl wine is also cheaper than Stellenbosch wine.

If you like cycling on the road there are nice roads towards Malmesbury/Durbanville that's not to busy.

Paarl also have a very nice cycling community.

Good luck with your choice.

Hermanus is a very small town and probably quiet as well. Also a lot further out.

Hermanus in December is a nightmare.

Somerset West fits between My two favourite areas for MTB (Grabouw and Stellenbosch) it also has some trails ranging from family to frightening on the doorstep. Road rides are either into the wine region or down the coast. I am pretty sure wherever you choose out of all areas mentioned you will have few regrets.

I was born in Stellenbosch, loved growing up there and still is a great town, but really expensive.

Somerset West feels like one big suburb and has no charm.

Riebeek West or Kasteel would be great if you didn't mind to drive abit for shopping.

otherwise, Paarl seems like the best option.

Think the nice thing about Cape Town is that unlike Joburg you don't have to move an hour or 2 away from the city centre to get into the country vibe.

Even in the northern suburbs (which admittedly is not as sexy attraction as say Paarl or Stellenbosch) you are minutes away on your bike from vineyards & mountains & mtb trails.

I live in Heldervue in Somerset West. I am about 1.2km from the closest trail (Eendrag on the Wannabees network). I am about 12km from Stellenbosch, 6 km from Lourensford and the likes of Grabouw, Lebanon and Oak Valley is 35 minutes away. The schools are very good (one of the reasons we moved was that we did not think that private schooling was worth the cost if proper government schools are available), there are busses to the Stellenbosch High schools if your kids want to go that route, property prices are 20 to 30% cheaper for a standard 4 bedroom house on a 1000m2 plot. You don't have the day-to-day hassle with students parking all over town or if you are young, people mistaking you for a student.

It boils down to personal choice. I am very happy in Somerset West. I was in school in Paarl and went to Stellenbosch university, and each has a unique appeal. Somerset West suites my current needs much better than Stellenbosch or Paarl right now.
