Don't tell her anything, just ask her nicely explaining your reasons and reminding her xmas is around the corner. Either she will say buy it yourself for xmas or she might offer to buy it for you.  The crux of the matter is don't be a dick and tell her that its your money and will do what you like with it.

Remember, they say only real men wear pink...no need to be macho about it.

I usually encourage the boyfriend to buy bike parts for himself.  The only limitation we currently have is space

space problems are easy to solve - so you could buy group-sets for the coming 12 years and have space for some- awwwwsim

Glare at your wife before returning the picture on the nightstand.

Go to sleep with your back turned to your wife.

 

Soon, she'll pack her bags and move out, claiming you care more about the wheelset than her.

 

If she doesn't take everything you have in the divorce, buy the wheelset with the money you save on buying ridiculously expensive shoes that never get worn

that sounds complicated - just buy the wheels and ask forgiveness after - it may be quiet for some time but THATS  A GOOD THING RIGHT
