You guys should not criticise the BnB or camper van option until you have tried it, let me tell you..... ..... It's not nessecarily an easy way out. Camping in the village has its advantages

More respect for the guys in the tents.

Much easier day today, perfect conditions. Nice and cool. Short sharp climbs followed by some of the best single track you'll find. Legs are still hurting but hoping the extra recovery time will help when we tackle the brute tomorrow.

My epic ended on stage 2 with some kind of food poisoning, woke up puking. Made it to CP 1 (over a MASSIVE hill) where my board was clipped. Then made it to CP 2 where I gave up. Was totally green around the gills and slept about 15hrs straight.

Appetite is still not 100 percent but I'm back riding and completed the rest so far.

Still riding my bike so that's the most important thing.

No Kevin Vermaak says he stayed in tents enough times in the early days of the Epic and is in B&Bs...

obviously he's not going to do tent city! He gets to book the best bnb before the route is announced too

These things happen.  Best is too look forward, and not back to what might have been.

Did you use energy bars and gels on the first stage, and how much?  Also, how much proper food did you eat during the ride?

I highly doubt that since he was spotted many times in the lifts of the Protea Knysna Hotel and B&B's in the stage towns. Maybe just once or twice in the tents to get the noddy badge

Yep I'm bummed but it's not the end of the world. I ate pretty much only the fruit cake they supply at aid stations during stg 1. Spoke to a guy who broke his wrist on the prologue so I feel much better off - at least I get to ride!
