Wow the world is so small. My wife and I went from random beach to random beach and as we walk into Pizza Hut to get a bite to eat, I notice a Sani2C jacket on a guy. Who does it turn out to be? Only Ramrod and his wonderful family. What are the chances I mean really....

Glad to of met you Ramrod & Family and thanks for the chat.

NZ? No thanks

Viva DA

Come on boys,,,,not even a congrats???

You know my feelings

What, you seem to expect the expats to suddenly feel regret?

Just because a certain party didn't win majority, doesn't mean their attitudes and views will change.

My reasons for leaving had very little to do with the ANC being in power.

Before i explain myself, let me first tell you that there are 2 types of migrants.  Those that run away and those that run towards.

The ones that run away tend to be bitter and angry because "their" country was stolen from them. They sit around braais and slate the ones that stayed and generally are not that nice to be around.

The ones that ran towards are a much nicer bunch. I simply felt like a change.

Sure, this place is better in some respects, political stability is one. but it isn't my reason for coming here.

Here are my reasons (in no particular order)

1. Time for an adventure

2. Time to simplify our lives and focus on whats important...family time and quality of life. Being an outdoorsy person, New Zealand provides a more interesting and safer environment to do that.

3. I want to show my children more of the world. Having a Kiwi passport with visa free access to many countries will encourage that. Although, simply being here in a multicultural society is already achieving this. My sons primary school has children from over 160 different nations!

4. This country is far safer than most, and i enjoy the freedom of living in a place that allows me to relax more than stress out. My kids play in the street and i walk them to school. When they are old enough they will walk themselves. This will teach them responsibility and put them in better stead to be decent adults.

5. a more stable economic climate for investing purposes.

6. Better education options for my kids

I really am glad for the fact that the DA has taken over a few more wards and the country has an opportunity to better itself. Just because i left, does not mean that i wish badly on South Africa. in fact, quite the contrary. I left a lot of people behind that i dearly love and respect. I want nothing but the best for them. South Africa is on a knife edge, i really hope it improves. Me emigrating is only about creating options for my family. If the country improves and my children choose to return to there home, then that is amazing. But at least they will have a choice.

Seriously. Why are you on this thread?

And also, do you think that if something terrible happens in SA, where most of our families still live, we'll all get together and celebrate? I can tell you right now, that will never happen.

In any event, good that the DA is making headway and the Rondt has bounced back big time. Long may it continue.

The quick reply to your statement would/could go both ways

Why you posting on a SA FORUM

THATS IF EVERYONE AGAIN ASSUMED EACH OTHER DIDNT CARE,,what's going on both sides which we obviously do,while I keenly follow WP thread initially it was to see how someone I personally know is doing that side, if you don't give a **** what's happening here why post in SA ??

Now I remember why we initially bumped heads,

WP I know all of that as you know, it was said in jest

Karma calm yourself I don't expect one good day for us to change YOUR attitude, again said in jest,,,you guys remember jest still hey????

Back to your thread sorry for the disruption WP keep those family pics flowing

Yeah...no harm taken.

The Kiwis notice this too.

I work in a team of 7. Of the 7 there is 1 Scott, 1 Englishman, 2 Kiwis, and 3 South Africans.

The first South African to arrive in the Christchurch office falls into the "run away" category. He has a very cynical view on life and is generally quite grumpy and miserable.

When my boss (the Scott) said he was hiring a 2nd South African (me), the Kiwis and Englishman were very skeptical and pretty anti the idea of another stubborn, sour faced Saffa.

After 2 weeks of sussing me out they realized that not all South Africans are the same. About 4 months later we hired another South African (a former colleague from our Bryanston office). He is also positive and cheerful, so we're slowly changing perceptions.

Might still be the dodgiest, but I can also be the friendliest!

Myself and a buddy were hanging out with a couple of Australians in Auckland a few weeks back. One had had a South African housemate before so she wasn't the biggest fan based on that experience.

We got told "you're not like typical South Africans".

I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, hahahaha!

But I kinda get where they come from if most pf the South Africans they interact with are those with chips on their shoulders and are generally quite stubborn and otherwise.

Thanks man appreciate it. The end of a very long road that started at the beginning of 2010.

So now instead of being the d000s I've always been, I am officially what we locals refer to as a d1ckhead. ha ha.
