ja did similar - to buy some flights - wasn't really worth the effort for the savings if it's only intermittent, plus i have to transfer money into the account to pay for the flights.

I'd be totally happy to be ALL IN with a group for all my stuff, if it really was a deal. but everytime I question people who are purple kool aid Disco I back off. the cult vibes are too strong.

their flight discount is more of a joke...

I wanted to use it to book my trip last year. Best price was 18k via turkey with emirates and the vitality discount. Went to emirates website directly and all of a sudden there is a flight via Dubai for 16k.

back to vitality - in the market for a new gps watch. eyesight is going shortsighted, so would be nice to actually read the numbers - seems amoled is the way to go.

did they change the device discount? it's capped at R4k(is that new?). So if you want an R8k watch, and you qualify for 40% off, it's actually just R6400 or 20% effective.

I've been a suunto guy, but would maybe move to garmin for this. BUT I see so many Ts and Cs that they will schnaai you in the end, won't they?

device discount is

Garmin "promotes" some watches with the option to increase the font size .....

NO ... it makes no real difference .... cant read any notifications without my glasses ....

Only real solution ...

. Basic screen with large font

. Sports screens limited to 3 or 4 data fields, thus larger font

still no work around for reading notices without my glasses, i.e. when out doing sports ....

The fact that they advertise the option for larger font suggests they know there is a need .... but then increase it by o,5% 😬

Don't buy a Garmin watch if you're not already using their Tech. Opt for a Polar Pacer watch. Awesome battery life, tri-sport capable, pool swim, open water swimming etc. Way cheaper than a Garmin with the same functionality. Added benefit of not having to engage with the Garmin UI which must be the most illogical ever created 🤯

Can you load "Polar" events to Vitality, without gymnastics with the fit files ?

Interesting comment about the UI .... my first watch was a Polar, then a Garmin cycle computer.  This was 2017/8.  Used both for almost 2 years.

Swings and round.abouts, at least back then. ...  now so used to Garmin Cinnect that it does what I need.

18 months ago I was looking for a watch with longer battery life .... I looked at all brands, from Samsung through Polar to Garmin .... it can be a wormhole digging through the specs and how each concentrate on something else .... I chickened out when I saw a special on a Garmin Frontrunner ....

Interesting comment about the UI ....

Yup, Discovery accept Polar & Garmin data.

All Polar screen setup is done on the app and then sync'd with the watch. Streets ahead of Garmin UI.

When I bought my Polar Pacer the equivalent Garmin was almost 3x the price. If you need pool & open water swim tracking, which Shebeen should be doing, then you need to look at the Garmin Fenix range.

Thank you.  Good to know that Polar and Vitality works together.

PS . Garmin now als does all its sports screen settings from the app.  Certainly much easier than 5 or 6 years ago.

But this the thing with software ... every so often one leads in a particular aspect, then the rest plays catch up .... facinating to have lived through the single floppy drive era to todays powerfull devices in our pockets .... from lines of GW Basic programming to graphic interface programming from our phones .... heck, in the 90's you could enroll for PLC cources, now school kids can do more on basic phones ....

The new Polar Street X looks proper...... but you still can't use it for golf like Garmin or Huawei

I get that. query is about these "fitness goals" - are they achievable or do they just move the goalposts as you get fitter.

Hitting the goals is easy if you healthy.

I am at 100% worst case scenario being on the ultra distance athlete segment/plan. My weekly goal is 1200 points, which for me that is 4 runs or 6 easy 1 hour bike rides. I managed a 24 week streak of that last year. Use it don't use it.

My 4 year old Fenix 6x has 4x the battery life and a bunch of other features and in 2022 cost me less than what the polar costs now. Food for thought.

This^
I set up not more than one or 2 data fields per screen view and then just pan between them based on what I am up to.
I also really like the alerts, 30min alerts on the bike to keep up with fuel strategy or auto 1km laps when running to control pace on runs where I am not following a dedicated workout.

Another thing to think about with a smart watch. Yes they are expensive, but how much time do you use it. Hundreds of hours tracking training per year, plus normal day to day watch use and for me the health tracking is getting really good. I can spot when my resting heartrate has spiked for the night and then I know i need to take it easy. It also tells me when I am over reaching which is more than I care to admit. I was sick recently and it even gave me heartrate warnings. So there is a lot that is does and when you work out the spend vs usage it is not actually that bad.

Same as a mattress, spend 20k on a mattress that you spend 7 hours a night on it and people feel bad spending so much. But people buy a 30k bike to ride 7 hours a week without blinking.

You're suggesting that a Garmin Fenix 6x was retailing for under R5k in 2022? Interesting, I seem to remember comparing options about then and the Fenix was over R10k...Gemini is saying R12k+..

Regardless of actual pricing, the point I think you're making is very valid. My Polar Pacer was cheaper in about 2022 than it retails for now...☹️

Haven't paid much attention to my Vitality in the last year or so, and I just realized that I forgot that all my Wahoo activities won't pull through.

Is that still a thing - Wahoo still not recognized by Discovery? Do I still have to go through the whole process of exporting my Wahoo fit file, use fitfiletools to change the device to a Garmin, then manually upload to Garmin Connect for it to pull through to Vitality? Anyone got a shortcut for this by now?
