At 1,78m tall and weighing in at a hefty 99,8kg, my BMI is not where it should be....

I had a chat to the biokineticist that did my Vitality assesment and he told me that they take into account your calliper readings as well when they do a proper BMI calculation. The height/weight one is like calculating your max heart rate by subtracting your age from 220. A guide.......

I have the build of a front row forward. I have resigned myself to the fact that I'm never going to make the cover of Men's Health and that my wife loves me just the way I am.

I weighed 89kg when I left school. That dropped to 72kg after Basics and crept back up to around the 85kg mark when I was studying in my early 20's. I quit smoking and found another 7kgs. I stopped riding 2 years ago thanks to shoulder surgery and found the balance that took me up to where I am now.

I've touched tripple digits a few times as well...

Target is 95kg (baby steps) and we'll see from there.

I HATE climbing (That's what shuttle days are for). I rode a road bike for a while and was very popular on the downhills. Looked stupid in lycra so gave that up. Riding shirts are XXXL and shorts are 36/38 depending on where you buy them. Found my "groove" with the gravity stuff. Think I'll hang around there for a while. They serve beer as a recovery drink.

I like to think of myself as Large and in Charge. Besides there were no memorable stories after you finished a six pack.... now a KEG on the other hand....

Hard to miss Waal Bartman. He's the one that looked like a Volksie that had just rolled and landed on it's wheels with the doors open...

My brother used to work with him, his nickname is Cauliflower Ears, although a qualified lawyer he owns a security company.

I started riding MTBs back in the early 90s. Bridgestone MB1 forever! Stopped riding for several years (idiot!) and went up to 127kg. I'm 1.94 tall. Down to 110kg (on a good day) at the moment. Can't seem to get past the 110 mark. Good, healthy diet etc. So I just decided feckit, keep riding, stay fit and enjoy it.

Some interesting info:

During the Big Vic's (Victor Matfield) short sabatical or mock-retirement, he and his SWAMBO dabbled a bit in the mountain biking scene. According to a scientifically verified and objective search, the all-knowing GOOGLE indicates a height of 2.01m and weight of 110kg......that is a BMI of 27.2277228.

Sorry Vic.....your a lightweight......30 is the mark. Some people say his wife actually kicked some SO butt......

I am 194cm or 6'4 and weigh around 100kg .At my best prep form i went down to 97kg and stayed with the top 30% on stage races .Like a typical diesel engine it takes me an hour to warm up and get going .Usually by then i start catching the ,faster from the gun ,lighter riders .Weight makes a huge difference .Jaroslaf Kulhavy is a tall rider at 187cm but weighs only 76kg .he easily puts 400watts out for extended periods

Is it not time for a December Biggest Loser competition ?

We have all stated our current weight and a little challenge to keep us on the straight and narrow it could be good motivation.

You must be over 90kg to join in and we score on % of bodyweight lost between 1 and 31 December.

If you are participating and have already posted your weight, post your weight each Monday morning and the winner with bragging rights (and if I can find a sponsor) a small prize will be the person who has lost the greatest % bodyweight by Monday 4 January 2016.

Golf rules: you score yourself and would not even think of cheating

If I weigh me, my bike, all the gear + food, bottles and fill my pockets to max capacity I may, just may, get close to 90Kg (89.8Kg).

So I say GOOD LUCK to the guys doing the challenge - hopefully you come out the other side happier.

Well I was 96.1 on Monday so lets do this.

I already got a couple of decent runs in since then and haven't had a beer, so I'm on track ahaha.

I'll just be watching from the sidelines.... I am about to make up a 23lt batch of the finest recovery drink known to mankind and I am hoping that the first bottle will be good to go around new years... Oh and did I mention that there will be biltong in the dryer by the weekend...?

Good luck to all the contestants
