So 2 days ago my good mate asks me to join him on the epic.

I am relatively fit but to the guys who have been there, is 2 months enough to prep yourself for some afk@k?

Its always been on my bucketlist and this is my chance.

Oh ya and then theres the hardtail issue, anyone know of a person who can freeze sperm?

Regards

When you say "relatively" fit, how much relativity are we talking about? :whistling:

Work on about riding 6 hours a week. Run about 20km a week and swimming about 6kms a week. And some gyming

It's about quality rather than quantity. 6 hours a week of decent riding should be enough.

I did it in 2013 on 8 hours a week of training, with 8 days notice.

My only condition to my partner was that we ride at my pace. We came 50th overall.

But you are next level.

And if you rode at your mates pace, what position?

Definitely next level.

I'd be dead under a bush somewhere between Tulbagh and Wellington!

My point was - ride within yourself. And have a clear understanding with your partner about your expectations for the Epic. As long as you're both on the same page, you'll have a blast. Whether it's aiming to make the cutoff each day and win in the beer tent each night, or crack the top 100 - race with the same objective as a team.

The question is: Do you want to do it? Half of the Epic is just mindfarking yourself to the finishline.

If you want to do it, and believe you can do it, 2 months will be enough.

Stop the swimming. Reduce the running. Bump the riding up to 10, then 12 then 14 hour a week. Rest week. From middle Feb, start with shorter weeks but high intensity.  Don't aim for the podium though.

Hardtail is fine. Rule 5.

Enjoy.

Put in some quality ride and you will be fine, if you in Jhb area go do Breedtsnek a coupe of times....

Most importantly enjoy it, once in a lifetime, well at least for me :)

In 2005 I got an entry 3weeks before the start.

I met my partner once before the start and had to rush around buying kit and organizing everything

But after the shock of the 1st two days I had a really enjoyable experience

My riding regime at that time was 3hours of spinning during the week, a two hour road ride on Saturday and a 5 hour Mtb ride on Sunday.

My longest mtb ride had been 90kms and I was (and still am) a poor climber
