I dont wear one when i hit the pub which is a km away, but then again i dont blast down the road. it feels good not having one on. When im out on the trail i always wear one.

I have smacked my head so many times i lost count and every single time i'm grateful for the protection

The was this one time at band camp......

I feel completely weird if I ride without a helmut. Just like I cannot get into a car without putting the seatbelt on, even if it is to drive from the driveway into the garage...clip, on it goes, ten seconds later, clip, off it comes.

Perverse as it may seem that's exactly the reason I like to odd 'hood spin without a helmet. My little amadla viva personal choice etc.

Proper training and racing gets a lid every time.

Ultimately each person's risk versus reward is different. Hell if we cared about our safety at all we wouldn't ride bicycles in the first - between the 'jackings and cars mowing us down it isn't exactly in the same league as knitting when it comes to safety.

I take it you've never accidentally poked yourself with a knitting needle....

I have many times but thanks to the steel mesh gloves, bulletproof jacket and full face helmet I have never had a knitting injury!

I love thehub - if I disagree with you - you're dumb.

:)

1) Not wearing a helmet is dumb

2) Expecting a helmet to save your pip at all times is also dumb - they have a rather limited range of usefullness - still.... better than nothing....

Honestly all that needs to be said in this thread

Am I correct in saying that the helmetless riding debate is a roadie thing? And that some debate exists that it may be safer for roadies to ride without helmets?

(Im asking because I may have found some new understanding now)

Not wanting to stir here, but this is not really a good example, his head did not even touch the ground. #Just saying.

There are pictures of one of my helmets where it did touch the ground here on the hub.... search....

In fact there are plenty of destroyed helmet pictures and personal stories on the hub - wonder how many would have avoided serious injury if they had not been wearing a helmet?

No..... it hit the ground. It just rebounded so fast that the crappy camera didn't pick it up....

Falling in that position like he did means his head definitely hit the ground. You can even see his neck bending.
