Froome vs Everybody Else

I see a Voganov of Katusha has tested positive.

If clean riders can't won't then can we say dopers can't lose? Voganov was just a domestique. Hardly a GC contender. Doping doesn't seem to always turn a donkey into a race horse either.

Yip only hackers in the autobus are doping, front of the race is clean.

Other than a few bits and pieces not sure how this thread is different to the other Froome (comments on doping) and KE, Crouser, de Villiers, Vorganov threads.

I believe he is clean and will continue to do so until someone can show me otherwise.

Calling him a doper doesn't mean sh*t to me unless it can be proven...

Posted

Due to the history of the sport, any pro rider is a suspect as a doper. Thats just the way it is, there's no innocent until proven guilty here... Trust was eroded a long time ago.

**Disclaimer below **

There are only vague suspicions that point to him being dirty. You could apply all of these suspicions to the career of Burry Stander and come to the same conclusion. Why wasn't Burry considered a doping suspect, better pr, no pesky French press chasing holey stories?

Despite KV's best attempts to say otherwise, you can't draw a direct comparison to a cape epic and a TDF winner. The level of scrutiny is just so much more intense at world tour level, but that could change in times to come.

*** I remain a huge fan of our greatest ever mtb rider, may he rest in peace. I do maintain that unfortunately all pro cyclists (successful or not) just have to be viewed as suspicious, because we've seen this movie too many times.

I've probably asked this about a million times but.....why do we care?

There is diddly squat we can do about euro pros doping. We will never know "the facts" - even of those that have been bust.

So "they're all dirty" who cares? Why care about something you'll never have enough facts on to have an informed opinion on?

I watch the TdF and love it. When someone gets done I remove them from my "they're cool" list. No biggie. No fanfare. Just me enjoying cycling. Dirty/clean - whatever. If/when they get bust then oh well.

Do I think that clean cyclists can beat dirty cyclist? I don't care :-)

Maybe these roadies must dope their skill levels... Ive seen plenty moer off going in a straight line.

Just saying.

TdF is still great to watch like you say. dope, or no dope I like to watch.

So still no constructive argument to support statements that Froome is dirtier than the others?

Yip, there's no data or evidence, Patch'

Just conjecture and skeptical opinion and high-dosage cynicism, which is highly understandable.

The Dawg works mighty hard

And the Skyborgs are a obsessive compulsive millimetre marginal pains gains kinda outfit.

Time will tell.

For now, The Dawg is clear.

I found it interesting that only a hand full of world tour teams train together in the off season, some do not even train together during the season.

This leads to certain riders arriving at certain races/ tours horribly out of shape. This could lead to a large discrepancy is performances between world tour teams.

Sky on the other hand monitor their riders almost all the time, including the off season.

Sky has rented out an entire hotel in Mallorca, I think, for most of the off-season or something (especially in the heart of the Euro winter)

And has a 'pop-in system'

Skyborgs can pop in at anytime and go back home anytime, as long as they meet their training requirements - indoors or outdoors

They are exceptionally organised and have the budget to boot

Betancur pops into that hotel for breakfast buffet everyday it seems.

One of the reasons I think the likes of Froome can be so strongly supported at Le Tour etc.

GCN did an interview with Pro's that have been in peleton for 12-15 years, they were saying that the biggest change were the leaders teams hammering from the gun, in the past they used to let the break away get 12-15min and then chase it down, now they hammer from the gun to just wear down the entire peleton.

I reckon they have more skill in their little toe than most of us have in our entire body.......

Yup - I'm with 'Dale on this one.

Much I read the threads and enjoy the the "do they don't they" banter it's a bit like the moon landings, 911 and schrodingers cat.

I laud the clean/unbust/yettobebust/theoreticallyguitly until they are proper bust then I laud them no more. It's about the best you can do in a system where bustings are a weekly occurrence and the history is well tainted.

So - in relation to thread - do I like Froome? Sure. Not my favorite rider but somewhere near the top.
