Sepia Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Nothing wrong with that. I am sure you have done enough hills to know there is no hill that cannot be walked.
Me rida my bicycle Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 As every night when I'm awake at 2 am I open the hub read a bit and go back to sleep I am now so captivated by this story it's nearly 4 am and I think instead of going back to sleep I am going for a ride. Lol!
milky4130 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 "Slept under the bakkie" LOL!!! That must've been one hell of a jol of a weekend.
TALUS Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Time to resurrect this thread. I was not kidding. I am so inspired I ditched 94.7 and entered. Everything is paid so there is no turning back. I presume this is not a good place for a fully rigid bike? All advise welcome
Matchstix Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Rigid will fine. Will be bumpy on some stuff. But that's rigid

And even in 2008 you could alreado do it on slick tyres without any issue. The scenery is wonderfull, the terrain technically not that challenging IMO

I presume this is not a good place for a fully rigid bike? All advise welcome You have raised my interest again, maybe I'll do the same. By that I mean ditching 94.7 and doing this instead. What I won't do is riding a rigid. I Did that a year or so back on the Karoo2coast. I built a rigid lightweight Carbon climbing machine; I even took the derraileurs off and left just one cog on the back. It was great until the top of Buffels at about 60 km but down through the fast parts of the forest killed me. Going down the ou wapad was no problem as i was our of the saddle and could anticipate the hits. But every small rut and bump through the forest when I was just sitting and riding was miserable. It was the only race where my forearms hurt more than my legs. Too old for that.
TALUS Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 I have entered Novi Colli in Italy next year for my birthday. All is paid. Now I need hills to ride. This will be the start. I want to get the Strada Bianca feel.

TALUS Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Doing the full (hopefully). I did a scout this year. Found a fantastic cycling hotel (Hotel Dory). Reasonably priced. Lots of new Scott bikes. All have compact cranks. If anyone is interested - I can point you in the right direction.
RABUBI Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Next years bucket list is the to hell and back trailrun, in and out of the valley using old donkey trails the locals used to take their wares to the surrounding towns before the hell and back road were built

The scenery is wonderfull, the terrain technically not that challenging IMOTrouble is that just one big rainstorm (like this weeks one) and the whole road could call for really plush suspension and proper knobblies. I wouldn't try that on a rigid bike, not if you promise to make me 20 years younger! But then I have seen people ride it on fully rigid single speeds........I think they had mad cow disease!
Broker Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 We are planning to do a 5/6 day unsupported tour in that area in the near future. Can anybody assist with some recommendations on routes, GPS routes, accommodation etc as we don't know that part of the world at all.We would like to start at a central point and cycle a circular or out and back route back to our starting point.
