If you're in a real pinch.... you can use a seatpost as a handlebar. but not the other way around.

Thats cool but as long as you remember not to sit down....ouch

Im not talking about the obvious thing a seatpost do - i see people are always advertising seatpost and is there real diffs between the seat post you get is a certain seatpost better and if so - why

That depends on a number of factors.

Some weigh less than others.

Some have special abilities like dropper posts.

On an alu frame a carbon post can make the ride slightly more forgiving.

Some have better adjustments for the seat angle.

 

The list can go on.

Is it the first place you would spend money upgrading on a bike? No I wouldnt say so at all.
