Yes but does Chris Froome have to use up all his energy shouting "hold your line" "keep Left" and "Please put at least one of your hands back on the bars Sagan" That makes the Cycle tour much, much tougher.

This is the proof to look at haha! Really brings you back to earth.

If you want to see the difference between us mere mortals and the pros, just look at guys like Jaco Venter, coming 2nd, 3rd and so on in the argus (now our SA champ) and then look at his record on the international level in one day classics.

YOu know, it'd be a far better comparison if the profiles were normalised, ie the lowest elevation on ALL routes was set at a theoretical zero, to get the actual difference in profile.

If you could log scale the elevation axis, it would help us feel better too.

Entered the jock classic for my first one this year. That image makes me feel alot better thank you

NOT!!!

That Jock profile won't help much, it is from the original route, no longer used. The current route is much easier (imo)

Here is a scary stat.

Last year and the year before the winning average speed for TdF was "near as makes no difference" 40km/h.

That is a 2h40 Argus, twice a day, for 21 days!

No wonder all of them dope.

Froome would manage about 35km/h for the entire race. But he would probably be able to repeat it for 10 consecutive days.

The Classic specialists and time trialists would reach close to 38 km/h.

I think I would average close to 35 on my own, would expect a euro pro with their 'preparation' to go a lot faster than that.

Two Saturdays ago I rode 107km with 1200m of climbling at 34.7km/h and I was far from flat out. https://www.strava.com/activities/497306821

Or 41.428 km/h if his shammy can stay in 1 piece.

I still can't believe he did that. You would think that someone as good as him and with the kind of so called people with experience around him that he should rather have just looked at his setup? What do they expect when you glue/tape your pants to the saddle?

You are right, and Froome would probably be able to go faster, but that would be speculating which I don't like to do, especially on the hub.

Crazy stuff these guys are willing to do to go that teeny tiny bit faster.

Probably or more like a given.....
