This one from bikeradar assuming 12 speed will be 10-50

Definitely on MTBs, the FD is the dodo of the sport....

Perhaps its a little more difficult to get rid of just yet on road bikes where riders may need to climb a 10km 8% gradient then decent the otherside at 90km/h. You don't want to spin out at 40km/h?

not at all, they need to work out how to make something with less components cheaper first before it can think of replacing 2x and 3x systems

What am I looking at here?  What do the % mean?

Me - I love my FD.

Training bike is 1x and that's fine. Less stuff - cheaper to run etc and if I run out of gears it just makes me stronger while I hoof it up the climb.

Racing bike is 2x and that's fine. Enough gears in case I hit something like Rusty Gate climb ala 2014 Epic and a wide enough spread that I can pedal comfortably on 99% of ups AND downs.

To me 11-36 10spd and 11-40 11spd already feel like they're starting to show gaps between the gears. Not so much on the dirt where you're distracted by the bumping/jarring but on road you can certainly feel the gaps between the gears.

12spd 10-50 is gonna show bigger gaps that I aint gonna like that.

To each their own though - if simplicity/weight loss are your top factors than  1x12 it is for you.

Give this man a Bells....

essentially the difference in range between highest gear and lowest gear. So in this case the 10-50 cassette offers you a 500% range, as the biggest ratio is 5x larger than the smallest.

this way you can accurately compare the ranges of various different gearing options, even on 2x & 3x.

ie: 11-36 cassette / 24-36 chainring = 0.667:1 (24/36 ie granny) to 3.2727:1 (top gear) = 491% range (3.2727/0.667 = 4.91)

Wasn't there enough space for the 3x graphs? :whistling:

they don't sell 3x as a new offering anymore. They're still stocked, don't get me wrong - but in the current year model offerings, 3x just isn't there.

I tell you, its a plot....
