What a lotta people forget, even when they're right, it does not exempt them from being courteous and respectful.

Like a license to harm.

I see it in all spheres of life.

The OP was a rogue rider.

It seems that the members were rogue members (as the TBMBC's credo is to be courteous to others as a general ethos)

Any event, enjoy them trails, maxanon.

Ja but you can generally tell in the first three seconds what you are up against. A person with this gent's humility will show itself immediately and the situation from that point should be handled accordingly.

There is no excuse for being rude, from either side.

True. Unless he's on a blue bianchi methanol, and then brings the kid into it...

PS The real reason we ride our bikes...

To be happy

Could almost be on top of Hoogies' - just a bit too green.

..I take my first road trip to Oudtshoorn,..gets pulled over by a Metro Officer for doing 100 in a 60 zone,...1) Is it his responsibility to come to me, before my road trip and warn me of each provincial road law and regulation? 2) Now that I have caused offence,..the "officer" is a ......?

That's a very different situation - a better comparison here is Brandon the do-gooder pulling you over because he thinks you were speeding and shouting at you about how he knows better. It doesn't sound like these were marshals who are authorised to "police" the trails.

You've clearly set your mind on the fact that all the time the OP has spent on this thread has been for an intricate lie where he is just fabricating the whole story to achieve... (you'll have to finish the sentence as I have nothing?).

If what he says is 100% true then those people are clearly in the wrong and should learn some restraint/respect. If he is lying then he clearly has far too much free time.

Out of interest - are you one of the people in question or do you know them?

This is not Tokai or Table Mountain where there is some sort of public interest or historical use defence.

Defence? Try EMP's, EIA's, sensitivity studies, constitutions, etc on for size. There is a lot that makes obeying the rules in a National Park that much more critical but even then, there is still no excuse for being rude.

..which brings us to how to handle the situation should it escalate. Being a Jiujutsu coach I'm sure has it's perks..

Yeah. Indeed.

Anyway - Max, whatever the case, it's not cool that you were accosted in that way. As a member myself, I want more people on the trails, because it contributes to the trail kitty. That means more trails, more maintenance, more technical goodness.

Unfortunately, the fact remains that there is an inordinate amount of rogue riding that takes place, and all members have been asked to be on the look-out for transgressors and potential rogues.

This has, understandably perhaps (side effect of delegated power) given some of the members a bit of a complex, and some of them are a bit over-zealous, but perhaps rightfully so as we have lost trails due to rogue riding - both members and non members being at fault. The level of honesty and integrity with which the majority of these rogues conduct themselves is often sorely lacking, and as such they become argumentative, insulting, aggressive & entitled little brats who believe themselves above the rules and regs, and ignorance of the rules is no excuse, I'm afraid.

Yes, you should have been treated better - rudeness is not an answer. I hope you haven't taken it as a representation of how we all behave, and I hope you enjoy your membership the same as I (and many others) have.

Major up-side of the membership vs day passes - stringing together the different farms through the "green corridors" and not having to travel by car or on the road...

I feel your pain, I had some **** on a Sparkly Specialized interrogating me just as I wanted to start my ride. He was a marshal it turned out and I "was" up till then a paid up member with a Tygerberg number broad BUT I have a few boards on the front of my bike and the Tygerberg Mtb club one is unfortunately at the bottom because I ride there maybe 5 times per year. The **** took my number and I got a warning from the club via email... so now they can stick there club up there a$$es.

There is a rule that says your TMTB board must be visible on your handle bars at all times. You as a member are aware of this rule. If you couldn't be bothered to abide by it then perhaps it is best that you ride elsewhere.

You get these reusable cable ties, made from a rubbery dark green plastic. You should be able to get them at a builders warehouse or any DIY store. That will make it a bit easier to change the number boards so that you can always display the correct one? It would be no more difficult than to put your GPS on the bike every time you ride?

What gets me is that at the night ride last Thursday which is a club organised ride with lots of helpful people and a shop selling the permits, there were still people trying to ride without paying.

Can somebody perhaps just remove the reference to KE in the Contermanskloof page on the tygerbergmtb.co.za website.  ;)

"You might even be passed by Kevin Evans training here, but don’t be tempted to hang onto his back wheel, save your legs for the real grind over the last kilometre where you top out at nearly 440m."

Amazing that this thread has made it this far......

If you are new/visiting an area/trails you find out where/what/how before you ride, as that is the only way to maintain trails and riding privileges for all of us. Keep your side of the street clean and there will be no issues.
