Shebeen Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 http://www.moneyweb.co.za/news/companies-and-deals/old-mutual-private-equity-buys-largest-south-african-golf-store/ MoreCorp also owns Cycle Lab, the nation’s largest cycling retailer, according to the investor. Co-founder Darryl Egdes retains 20% and management owns 10%, the Old Mutual team said.MoreCorp will expand Cycle Lab by using the same large- store format used in its golf business, Investment Principal Farhad Khan said in the same interview. Two new 2 500-square-meter (27 000 square-foot) stores will open this week in Pretoria and Johannesburg, with Cape Town and Durban outlets to follow within two years, he said.
Skylark Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 CWC is probably SA's biggest online cycle store....Well it's definitely not the most sophisticated nor particularly nice looking, it works fine though. But is that a fact? I'd be very interested to know which the biggest(based on gross sales) online cycle store in Sa is.
Bizkit031 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Now its all going to go for a ball of crap,Cycle lab tried their luck in KZN and failed big time. Their online shop prices are rubbish as well.
Danger Dassie Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Now its all going to go for a ball of crap,Cycle lab tried their luck in KZN and failed big time. Their online shop prices are rubbish as well. Depends on who runs with it. Dylan Victor is an owner of Cycle Lab Tokai in Westlake and is in the process of changing to upscaled premises. So there's a definate growth and some hard learnt lessons, failures are to be expected in any business.
scotty Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Slightly off topic but still Cyclelab related i see Lee Stockenstrom who used to own Sweat and Gears and designer of the Emperors MTB route now works at Cyclelab Boksburg.

Not here boet big bike shops don't last and people here want things for nothing, what discount they can get.
Mongoose! Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Just visited the CWC site right now. No drop in CWC cycling jerseys yet.
Jaco-fiets Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Cycle Lab must be some of the kakkest cycle shops I have ever set foot in
Pure Savage Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Well it's definitely not the most sophisticated nor particularly nice looking, it works fine though. But is that a fact? I'd be very interested to know which the biggest(based on gross sales) online cycle store in Sa is.Is there one which is better than CWC? I have not seen one which is as good.
Danger Dassie Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Not here boet big bike shops don't last and people here want things for nothing, what discount they can get. Ja KZN has that rep. Don't spend money and does it come in black ....
PygaSchmyga Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Not sure "big box" retail works in cycling, if this is true. I have bought from CWC online which is pretty good with decent prices, and maybe this is what CL is after? I only know CL's big shop in joburg, which I'm not sure makes sense - merchandising is all over the place. Do they have a meaningful online presence?
KingTJ Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 all this does is open opportunities for other online stores...when there is big changes in the market it allows other players to creep in.....if OM bought them then i dont think there will be a change at all, they will only be looking on return in investment....if CL bought them then i think there will be some great opportunity for other online retailers.
Skylark Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Is there one which is better than CWC? I have not seen one which is as good. Not questioning the price or checkout process/service but the site is generally basic, low res images often very little description or technical info, vague often ambiguous product titles/names. That can be frustrating sometimes, there are so many variations with just slight differences in the realm of bike gear/spares.
EmptyB Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 CL have the most sh*tty website/online store I have ever come across!
SwissVan Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Slightly off topic but still Cyclelab related i see Lee Stockenstrom who used to own Sweat and Gears and designer of the Emperors MTB route now works at Cyclelab Boksburg. Jinna... works or owns it?
