I'm glad that no-one got hurt but there's no way in hell you would find me riding a stretch of road like that on a bike.

There's simply NO ROOM for error or misjudgment and a person on a bike (i.e. all of us) will always come off second best vs a car or truck.

I would not entrust my life to the average South African driver - because that's what it boils down to.

Was all of this not caused by the guy in the white corolla? The oncoming cyclist was overtaking him as well (and we all know cyclists are never wrong) so clearly the guy in the white corolla was the root cause.

And then there was the driver that hit 2 schoolboys on their bikes (age 12 and 11) yesterday in Bloemfontein.

One killed and the other lightly injured. a 3d boy was not injured at all.

This driver was looking ahead of him. how did he not see the oncoming cyclists?

How did the driver in Bloem did not see 3 kids on their bikes?

He was very lucky... unfortunately not the same can be said for this young fellow.

I have the same worries about my son.  He also rides quite often at Helderberg Farm, and then afterwards rides back home to Strand on the R44 over the N2 bridge and then passes the Somerset Mall.  The particular piece of road on the R44 the passes the Mall entrance is dangerous as some drivers rides fast and then suddenly decides that they need to go left, and then do so without looking out for cyclists on the left going straight.

Thats a nice clear pic.

So we know its a silver CA reg with 6 digits, the 4th being a 4, Geely with what seems like an old man behind the wheel....That should be plenty to identify the dude if he gets spotted again.....

Solid white line. Neither the car or bicycle should have overtaken the corolla.
