Stretch Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Pretty sure a big chunk of those are unused and probably dropped by accident. It happens. pretty sure a big chunk are also from littering assholes too
GrahamS2 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Maybe they see it as job creation @ R12000 per team they are trying to get bang for their buckWith that kind of of self-entitlement, imagine what the Epic route would look like @ R68000 per team
Stretch Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 why I cant stand these big participation events. 3 years of sani and every year glen would make an appeal..even to the point of threatened bans. here is what i would do - at registration have a computer with a cheapo fingerprint scanner, and a computer and record everyone's fingerprint. then if someone asks you say it is to assist with identifying litterers after the litter sweep to enable glen to enforce the litter ban....then see how much litter you get on the trail
CAAD4 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 A big thumbs up to your buddy. Wish we had more okes like this around. Ja then more of us could pass him and try and get to the cold beer first....
HenkD Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 It happens all over and I am sure pretty soon land owners will stop us using the roads and trails on their farm. And that would be sad
V12man Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 A buddy of mine who is at the Sani, just sent me this.He is riding with his wife, so he is taking it easy, which gave him time to collect litter dropped by other riders. This is what he alone collected on just todays stage. Guys its disgusting!! If you drop your packets, you are nothing but a selfish knobhead and I wish I could name and shame you! http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss153/Patch-elicious/Litter_zpsydxxxavx.jpg http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss153/Patch-elicious/Litter1_zps1cgc2iii.jpgKudo's to your mate for his efforts!!
Skott5 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 The littering if by the cyclists themselves is disgusting. I wonder how much of this is indirect - energy bars and sweets given to the locals who then just leave the wrappers there. The route is lined with locals begging for sweets.
CogitoErgoSum Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 image.jpeg Found in race camp this morning!!!Probably because they stuff their jersey pockets to dump it on the trail.... Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Pall Catt Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Pretty sure a big chunk of those are unused and probably dropped by accident. It happens. How do you accidentally drop something and not notice? If you drop it, stop and pick it up! If it's going to cost you 15 seconds on your race time and cause you to come 85th instead of 82nd then tough luck, maybe you should practice not dropping stuff as part of your training. We cant excuse this behaviour.

We cant excuse this behaviour. It happens...I have lost a bottle before in a race. Wrappers or gels can fall out of pockets in the process of handling them or even riding. You might think you put it back in jersey pocket but actually it got hooked somewhere. Maybe there are the odd guys that just gooi's the rubbish on the floor..but if you look at the gels in the pic, most of them are not even open...which leads me think it was probably not intended.
Guest notmyname Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 The route is lined with locals begging for sweets. How very unappealing. But this event seems to have become quite unappealing given the amount of entries that have been up for sale. Some even at half price!!!! Which brings to question.... Is the South African scene slowly steering away from this multiday/marathon discipline?

mazambaan Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Too many unappreciated freebies? I think that for Sani you hardly need extra trail food; water tables were (are?) well stocked and easy to pack a sarmie each morning.
