Would that matter? Don't think so...

I disagree. Slapping a Pike on an Epic is not the same as putting it on a Stumpy.

Most guys think slapping a Pike on their bike is going to turn them into Gwin or Hill, but it's not.

but an epic wouldn't necessarily have a 120mm fork on it. And if it did, I'd prefer it to be a pike. It's the travel, damper & stiffness that you need to look at, not the frame. A pike will always outperform a Rev. That won't change depending on what frame you're running... Especially given that the weight "saving" is only 75g. You're getting a much better fork.

But then I'd suggest pike for any travel at 120mm or more, at 97kg, until you get to Lyrik territory. Then I'd suggest Lyrik :)

What about a Yari?

Unfortunately the damping Is not on par with the pike.....it is just a beefed up revelation in essence

heavier still and afaik only comes in 130mm minimum.

The Yari comes in a minimum of 120mm and is about 150grams heavier,at

Least you get 35mm stantions over the 32mm on the Revelation.

jeepers. i must be the only person that didn't jump on the pike bandwagon and say it completely out performs the revelation. Mind, my experience is "only" with a 2014 Rev solo air vs a 2015 Pike solo air, and honestly after riding them back to back, it's a hair split. To note as well, i had a 2012 Rev, and the 2014 version blew it way out of the water. Don't fall for the fanboism: the pike has its not so lekker points, like its under damped compression valving viz wrt heavier riders. Where the Pike differs from the Revelation the most, in my experience,is the rebound circuit. The rapid recovery tech is definitely better.

The Pike is not a panacea for lack of skill or balls. If you have restricted funds, the Revelation is incredible value because it can handle serious abuse despite it's lack of apparent burliness.

But if you wanna hang out in the club, and can afford it, get the pike.

I know that but at least it's cheaper then a Pike and it as you say a beefed up Revelation so it's a good compromise if you want something with the Revelation performance but with a Pikes solid build at a cheaper price then a Pike.

As one of these "most guys" you speak of I have to agree...the Pike makes me feel a little bit like one of those ballies with the beerboep and the carbon S-Works. I get nowehere near the bloody thing's limits.

It's also not a great feeling when guys see you rolling up with this legendary fork and expect some fireworks and all you can deliver is something akin to a Spur birthday sparkle BUT but but....as you said, it makes me feel like Gwin and that makes up for all the trauma of ownership...every time.

For a 97kg rider I'd recommend the beefier fork at 120mm on a 29er.

Agreed on the damping - the 2012 Rev Dual Air I had was simply amazing. No issues with that.

But wrt me and the stiffness issue - yes, I did run the Rev at 150mm, and I didn't feel as if it needed to be stiffer / burlier / whatever, but - I'd rather have the burlier chassis on my bike. I'm a fan of over-engineering.

I think there is a lot of value in this statement.

Cross country riding can be 80% untechnical, jeep track or similar, if I commute from home I do around 40% Tar road before I hit the mountains, and then it’s just an uphill slog until I get to the 10% ST of the day.

As a downhiller I can understand having the best fork, I don’t want to waste money if I don’t have too, And the replies on this forum are changing my opinion, great input guys, at this point I’m leaning towards Revelation, but still not 100% decided.
