Hi everyone!

Just a shot in the dark, but im doing my first triathlon next weekend (70.3) and my shoulders struggle when im on the drops. I've tried adjusting my set up but i dont want to spend R1000 on a bike fit. Does anyone in the Cape Town area have a set of clip on Tri Bars I could borrow/hire for the race?

Let me know if anyone has a quick fix to not feeling like my shoulder is going to fall off after 20min :)

Thanks!

I agree with jonnow about not adjusting your set up this close. Is it the Cape Ultra you are doing? if so its a bit hilly so there will be a fair bit of riding without the need for an aero position.

I had a bad experience when I used my road bike with aero bars as I couldn't get the set up quite right and they messed my knee's up for the run.

I think it's best to stay as comfortable as you can on your bike leg. Lots of people will be their on road bikes with no bars.

Enjoy the race.

Lol, I was just going for a reaction. I spent the first 30 years of my life there, mostly in the parts to the top and left of the picture. It will forever be special to me.

Question time,

I have a Polar RCX5 and am trying to figure out the best way to record my swim sessions (HR is crappy with the strap moving all the time). Let's say i have the following set to complete:

1x 300m warmup

3x (4x50), 100, 100

1x 100m cooldown

How would you record this for TP? Would you do each section as a lap? Typically more interested in the speed than HR.

Curious to hear your thoughts?

thnx

Just an observation and not really a scientific one at that but while my stamina levels are going through the roof my absolute explosive performance seems to be waning...

Case in point...I seem to be slower in some events now than a year ago but I recover much much quicker and am far less tired after an event.

Does training for long distance Tri events affect "race" performance.... for us middle to the back of the pack athletes?

Most of my training is done solo for all 3 disciplines and pace levels within certain HR ranges.

Another possibility is that I have been training solidly now for 3 years with the only breaks after full ironman events and well my body might be "gatvol" and thus slowing down.

I'm thinking it may have something to do with muscle fibre. Fast/slow twitch.. Endurance builds slow twitch fibre which does take a long time. My suggestion is to try body building type exercises to build and recruit fast twitch muscle fibres. Depending on your diet, the use of carbs instead of fat adaptation may also assist in explosive type ability. Creatine may work well but for very short bursts of high power output. Testis compositum by Heel may assist with adrenal gland fatigue should that be the case . Timing of all the above should be based on your need for explosive bursts of power. Most importantly let food be your medicine and medicine be your food. Good luck Edited by Claudenova

nope. the Tomtom HR does not work in swim mode. The activity itself should be good for points or so I thought. No biggie but to not give points for swimming which must be one of the healthiest exercises possible seems stupid for an organization pushing healthy living.

I agree, 30min in the pool is a moerse workout for me, also no underwater capable HR monitor and I'm not going to spend 2k just to please discovery so I have to do with 100 points for the card swipe at VA

Where is a good place to look for tri wetsuits in the general Cape Town / suburbs / Boland area? Definitely not going to get a R12k racing suit but would like to browse through some, see what's what, etc.
