Had a look and a day of testing the new KIA Stinger.Wow it’s awesome but only thing that put me off was resale value compared to German cars.

I test drove a demo stinger when my Kia went for a service, mightily impressive and easy on the eye. It’s nigh on 45 000 here which puts it in German territory. I agree, resale value will take a big hit which is a pity as it’s a very functional car. Guess not family orientated either.

I have only seen one on the roads so they not selling lots of them, might be some deep discounts at some point.

My lil Kia which I bought unseen when I was still in za and my wife was here has impressed me a whiole pile. I was very wary of buying it but my wife said it’s good so I bought it. Pleasantly surprised by its reliability and well put together.. comes with a 7 year warranty here too which is transferred from owner to owner on condition it’s serviced by agents through the years. So far no issues.

Edit: sorry just realized this give it a tri thread so to keep it tri related I have a M dot sticker on my Kia.

Just wearing my legal hat here I am sure calling a car an Ironman Kona would probably require permission from IM themselves and obviously Marvel. May lead to conflict too as Isuzu is involved with IM in some regions.

Do you guys use any painkillers when doing IM distances? Any health risks to doing so?

I have heard many people do this, so was wondering whether I should add it to the list of things in the T2 bag?

Definitely not. I got off my bike and couldn't walk let alone run, and even if someone offered me any i wouldn't have taken it. I have heard to many kidney problems arising from painkillers and endurance sport.

It will mess you up good and solid-you will end up with kidney failure urinating blood at worst -so NO. If you want something that will help then I find Caffeine gels work-Example High 5 or GU Roctane  helps to focus. On IM sanctioned races the High 5 is available -you just have to look out for the sachet with the Green Cross on it when the volunteers hand it out. I like the High 5 it's runny and not as thick as some gels.

Pain and suffering are part of IM, so it not much fun if you take away the pain

As others have said, its a NO for many medical reasons.  Only thing I take apart from electrolytes in my drink is salt tablets.

Taking voltaren and pain killers is very common at IM. Judging by the amount of tablets I see on the floor which ppl have dropped leads me to believe that it’s far more common than we realize.

Chronic use of these medications is no good, using too many at an event is obviously flirting with disaster however clever use of these should not be shunned out of hand. I have never carried painkillers or voltaren type substances at any event until IM this year. I had 2 voltaren tablets in my T2 bag. Took one in T2 and put one in my tri suit pocket ( which I later lost anyway). Did it help? Can’t say for sure cos 1 tablet is not a lot but I think I ran easier having taken it. I never take tablets so I spose the hit of 1 voltaren could make a difference. There are so many variables at play. Again judging by the amount of ppl taking them they can make a difference.

Thanks for all the replies! Its specifically because of stories about all the tablets on the road that I asked the question in the first place. I will steer clear.

Maastricht on Sunday.

Hoping the organisers find a nice cool spot just under 24.5 deg.

Will just be doing it to finish as I've been plagued by injuries since January.

It's scary how many people think it's okay to use NSAIDS... when I started running, and Comrades in particular, it was just crazy to see how many people are happy to pop a myprodol etc... Avoid at all costs, the risks are not worth it... ever
