Ha!

The DH line is fun.

I finally got over my fear of the 2nd drop on the lower bit. All in my head.

The jumps are so well made the hardtail lands smooth as silk through most of it. Still trying to fully turn that kicker after the left berm at the top into a double ie landing past the flat onto the roll off, but that is just a bit of balls.

I miss the half log jumps on Vasbyt XC line... those always made me happy....

The new manicured Cobra needs to wash out a bit and go back to it's old sketchy rocky loose self.

The climb up to the bridal path is now a doddle so riding the switchbacks 5 times in a day is now super possible without dying.

I do miss the old Tokai but the new one is rad!

They must just log so I can ride before and after work

Those half logs have been replaced with jumps

Yes... But I still miss them.

Which is the point of my comment though... that despite missing parts of the old Tokai, the 'new' Tokai is also RAD!

Jumps... rad

Old half logs.... Nostalgicly rad

Not being open on weekedays... not so rad but that will come this year hopefully... hopefully

Yeah, I hear you, and what can we do but just wait, until we allowed in during the week. Firstly 7am to 6pm must go and be replaced with the old sunrise to sunset access.

YUP!

But I think once the logging has been done they won't need full time Marshalls which will make access much the same as it used to be.

Being able to do my up to pre and post work loops will make me, my family and my employees much happier people....

Yes indeed. That summer evening time is the best at Tokai. Glad you enjoying the trails. I think all bar Boulders are better than before.

Access is one thing - new and more trails is the other thing on the agenda at the moment. A trail scoping session and proposal to SANP will be happening soon.

..and funding the other. So many battles on so many fronts.

What happened to the Old "sponsors" pre fire? and the insurance? Are these guys not willing to come back?

Probably decided they had enough with SANparks dragging their heels

Does anybody know why SANparks they dragging thier heels?

Can anybody explain what is actually happening with the bluegums - it doesnt look like they have been touched, which means that access to the whole park is still limited.

All the trail building (sponsored and with a lot of much appreciated volunteer labourt) was great, but seems to have been banned. The trails are needing maintenance and there was talk of new sections - can anyone say why neither seem to be happening?

The alient vegitation is slowly being dealt with, but that task looks almost insurmountable - the stuff grows as soon as you turn your back. Are their resources for the long term control of this? At what point is the indigenous vegitation self sufficient?

It would be interesting to go back 18 months and revisit all thier reasons for us not allowed to ride there. How many were valid back then, and how many are valid now?

The re-opening of Tokai was all very exciting, and took place after a lot of hard work and HUGE efforts by various people (Deon and Myles etc), but that momentum seems to have slowed slightly. Or am I mistaken?

This isn't mean to be inflamatory or be taken as a dig at anyone, just questions that have been floating around my head

Edit: spelling

I used to ride trails twice during the week afterwork. Contermans or hoogekraal. Now I ma restricted to weekends, this is purely my fault for taking a Tokai membership over a tygerberg one.
