I was really impressed by this event, I foresee that more riders will opt for this race instead of Transbaviaans. Not only Gauteng riders!

Initially I was skeptical of the support vehicle setup and being self sufficient, as I would've enjoyed a checkpoint container setup that is transported by the organizers. But that would've reduced the 'lively' feel at each checkpoint.

I used my Extreme Lights Core light mostly on dim, and only on bright during the sketchy downhills, and my battery lasted the entire night!

Osmand+ Android App also worked perfectly for navigation, as it creates it's own voice commands to guide you through the route. It is great for the later stages of the race when you are tired and even orientation on a GPS screen becomes tricky.

I will recommend this race/ride to anyone who asks about it!

Enjoyed the ride immensely, only used one and a half battery packs. Quite a difficult last few kilometers with Korfnek and all that mud just before the climbs. My bike was creaking and squeaking no end and gear changing was difficult. Think this race is a little tougher than TB.

If all goes well we will definitely be back for more next year, a good get away weekend as well and good bumping into all the familiar faces in the street of Dullstroom all weekend long.

Must agree JJ, unfortunately I doubt I'll get another pink slip for an event of that nature on an Easter weekend

Not a problem nsBB, next year the event is on 30 March so you will be home for Easter  :whistling:

Was a great ride. Finished in 19h35mins (12,000 calories later)! Was my first 24hr Ultra Mtb race so happy I finished - took A LOT of vasbyt towards the end though!

The last climb was tough (Korfnek) and would of been nice with a waterpoint before this climb.

Rode with someone that did 3 x trans baviaans who said he thought this event was harder.

The organisation was good and had no problems with navigation.

Thanks Harry!

As the the nerd said I also used an 810 plugged into a powerbank and it worked with no problems.

I do this at TransBaviaans with my 310xt. The only problem is that although it continues recording, I get the 'charging' screen. This isn't much of a problem in Baviaans, but in an event like this where I'm relying on my GPS for directions, I'm not sure what I'd do..

You might be the third person to say that.

I'm beginning to think that it's tougher than Baviaans

List of things to pack

1. Reading glasses.

Actually a valid point with us older guys. Got a puncture last week, sealant spraying all over. Had a pump, bombs and plugs. Problem was I couldn't see where to plug the puncture! Had to phone the wife
