TTTIIIINNNKKKKEEEERRRR ... the man who got his wife to remove the chamois from his lycra's because it was too soft and not comfortable!

Cool "dude"

The wording of "dude" is rather apt for the era of cycling we are referring to here.

Fixed it.

I found the 96 Olympics XCO race on YouTube recently as well, it was the first time an mtb race was in the Olympics. Course didn't seem that challenging.

And lest we forget, Ou Bart has klapped a good few Epic Masters podiums!  I really like him, at least in his role as a co-host for RedBull TV,  I like his manner. Can't say I feel the same way about blagger Rob.

For me, that is still what I see as XC racing. Not the spectator orientated courses of today.

yes but ... what about the last XCO in La Bresse, France - that was pretty technical, good climbs, descents and massive crowds. Most of the top dawgs said they really enjoyed the whole deal, and it really brought out the best of the best.

Haha, poefters walking up the climbs, they took 22 years to get to widecrange clusters.:-P

I think the Cannondale with the headshock was the best suspension there at the time.

Forks suspension was mainly those squeezable plastic/polymer long disc thingies ... I still have a lovely machined Manito fork with them in the archives

Pffft whad u mean fork suspension....those things sucked....fully rigid until real suspension with air springs ala rock sid.

While the xc courses were not as technical as today you still got a total hammering... Especially seeing the racing lasted at least 2 hrs if you were at the pointy end

Very true. Essentially a time trial on the dirt.

The headshock introduced the needle roller concept, from which the Left evolved. Back in the day when Cannondale were true innovators.

It also had replaceable cartridges for difference damping and sping systems. Not too sure if that was a 1st. My day to day pavement warrior bike is still a Al framed F500 with a Fatty up front.
