Fake Salomon Shoes

You are missing the point of the Op's thread. He is telling you how to spot a fake, not how the logo, stitching or laces affects performance.

Read my post again. Slowly. Especially the 1st sentence of the 2nd paragraph.

I did a few trailruns with Genuine Speedcross. Worst trailrun shoe ever. In fact I had XT wings, S-Lab and XT hawke. With all my feet hurt like hell afterwards.

Personally I think Salomon shoes in general are overpriced and in general below average on performance

Switched to new balance trail shoes (also my road shoes) and never looked back

Hennie, how much trail running do you do?

I have done a few wartrails, sky runs, expedition africa's in various salomon shoes and find them amazing?

Also what are your feet like, short long? narrow, wide, high arch or flat? do you over pronate?

If you take out the insole of the shoe and the foot bedding is grey it is fake. if it is turquoise it is the real deal. this should be easy to spot when you buy, My 2 sents

Sounds like Salomon's last (the "foot model" they use to design their shoes) does not suit your feet. And that New Balance suits you better. It does not make one shoe better than another, it just means the one suits you better.

Never buy on brand, always buy in fit and ride (how the shoe moves)

To answer the question above. Yes, it does.

TL;DR: Save R100's on shoes. Spend R1000's on medical bills.

Anyways, you raised some valid points here, but there is one thing you need to consider: the lifespan of the shoe over 600+ km's. How does the midsole / structure last?

If they use cheaper materials on the visible parts, surely they'll do the same in the parts that we cannot see - and these are the important parts. Just like knockoff cycling products (due to cheaper materials) can hurt you (see fake ritchey bars), so can shoes.

Salomon spend a lot on R&D (well they would at least like us to think that) developing the LT Muscle technology to support your feet and the biomechanical chain that follows. Inadequate support may not cause the same kind of pain as per broken handlebars, but it can cause pain. The long-term-difficult-to-correct type pf pain. I'm sure the knockoff brand did not spend a second thinking about the structural support they should provide.

I use can and maybes - because maybe these shoes are just fine....but it's about trust.

Buying shoes from a reputable brand is almost the same as buying a bike from a reputable brand in the sense that you can trust the brand will keep you structurally safe. I know I'm comparing Apples and Pears here, but I have to keep it relevant to Bikehub ;)

P.S. @ TheJ: I remember your honest and informed ad from Trailhub - I respect that, unlike most of the ones on Gumtree and that one here on Bikehub...

Howzit Koei.

I see what you are saying, but the argument remains moot. Or is that, foot? We can go back and forth the whole day.

I haven't been able to run coming up on two months now due to a foot injury. Not because of running in fake shoes, but due to an injury I got while wearing top of the range Asics trail shoes. So on that point, expensive shoes doesn't always equate to running bliss and cheap fakes to R1000's in medical bills. I've done longish trail runs in R299 Mr. Price "trail shoes" and got home and dry with no problems. Or injuries.

I think it gets difficult to discuss the longevity of fake midsoles when there are guys out there doing marathons and longer in minimalist shoes, and these...

...that don't even HAVE a midsole to talk about :whistling:

Wondering if this not a better suited post on trailhub

...and stirring at the same time

Like the fate of most topics we are drifting off here.

My original intent was to inform people of counterfeit products, as these specific ones could be found on Bikehub.

And like most of the topics touching on counterfeit products, someone will try and justify supporting criminal behaviour.

I always wonder why they don't just go all the way and just steal the stuff they want. It is no different.

I bought a pair of these recently on sale for about R1499 at Cape union.

Definitely would not run or trail run or even hike in them, but they are great daily run around shoes, clients, office, shops etc etc.

Get some real shoes if you want to take them outdoors. Other than that, they are fairly comfy.

I do run quite often. did a few stage races and also do a lot of the local Gauteng races.

It probably boils down to personal experience and what works for you. I am neutral and have narrow feet with a high-ish arch and I tend to run flat footed, so the support towards the front of my feet is not enough on a salomon. Feet tend to burn afterwards.

I know many people who swear by them, but they do not work for me.

I own 3 pairs but wear them to work on Fridays and to the mall
