Sorry, couldn't help myself, but you work for the "blue" insurance company but you use the "green" insurance company to insure your stuff?? Does your employer know?

Hope you get your bike back soon.

I hear you. Security is very proactive, and this is a huge insult to them.

At least that is another weakness in our "defence system" that was identified (to your detriment, unfortunately) but it has been addressed immediately.

But can you believe how brazen the perp was !?

Everytime I rebroke I try with the "in-house" insurer but for some reason they always give me terrible rates, not just a little more - "not even in the ballpark"-more

In hindsight they might have some inside info on the security of our building which is not shared with the green insurer...

Hope all works out for you.

In other news related, I was told of a stolen bike that was recovered this week here in Somerset West after a fellow enthusiast saw a good bike for sale at a second-hand dealer here for cheap.

Thing is it seems to be a sickness lately.  I thought second-hand sellers was supposed to capture ID details of the seller. Unless they use fake IDs.

sorry to hear of your loss, maybe it has a happy ending.

Within 3 minutes of entering the garage he was leaving by the same door with my bike having successfully removed it from it's secured position on the bikerack (might have well locked it with spaghetti)

For interests' sake, so it was just on the bike rack, no locks/cables? And outsurance are cool with that?

Bike rack, was locked onto bike rack with combination lock.

It is insured under "out & about" not just house contents so it should be ok

That sucks man. Atleast you'll have some closure in knowing you've identified the piece of filth that stole your bike.

Goes to show (once again) that you simply can't keep your bike locked on a bike rack or anywhere where Tom, Dick or Harry can lay their grubby paws on it.

ok. so this guy obviously knows what he's doing...not always easy getting a bike off a rack that quickly even when you own it!!

So sorry that you had your bike stolen.

I concur with previous posts that it does seem to have some 'inside knowledge' aspects to it.

I hope it is either returned to you or if not then hopefully your insurance pay out will not leave you too much out of pocket for a replacement.

Not sure what kind of combination lock it was, but I've watched guys on Youtube pick them in seconds. Better to go with a good 'ol Viro.

these guys know more about bike racks (and their locks) than the guys that make them

stealing bikes off of bike racks in SA is an Olympic sport we would win gold at ..

sad
