Lol, naa I have no clue as to what is happening, and found it strange to suddenly get an email from the group and this is what is being discussed.

 

So basically just trying to find out whats happening?

Is there still any chance of early opening, or december, or is it beyond that?

Yes, still chance. Paper is on a desk in PTA awaiting a Signature.

 

Pierre left the group of his own volition. That caused ALL his posts to be deleted, which seems as if it's a standard FB response to someone leaving / being kicked off.

"First we had our build days chopped down from every second weekend, to once a month to nothing in the last 8 weeks... every week i don't make plans on a saturday in case i might build. We sit around waiting, we ask questions in the right places, no reply or very evasive answers, we wait more... still nothing. Yes i dont get on my phone and nag, but i do ask questions.

I know this is a much bigger mission than stellenbosch cos the wine farmers don't have parks to deal with, i do know Jonkershoek is a nature reserve, but apparently it falls out of the scope of parks.

 

Tokaimtb mountainbike central has every single trail builders email address, i thought it brilliant that we were using neat tech like mail chimp to co-ordinate build days, that platform could have been used to just simply communicate to each one of us (and we are a big, diverse crowd) via a personalized mail (not very hard to do if you are using mail chimp) like a progress report... After slaving away for an entire winter it should be obvious that we have a vested interest in the trails and would like to know.. see, what the hell is going on.

 

I was asked to be evasive with my photography but to show enough to generate interest, which i felt i achieved. But now us, for the last couple of months have been on a media blackout the same as everyone else.

 

I appreciate the huge efforts that have gone on behind the scenes, i know the red tape and the dealing with Pretoria issues. But i dont see how that impacts on willing members of the public who have put in their hours on the mountain, who want to build, to be left out... JUST LIKE THAT... net so! They are fighting for early access, i agree with the idea

 

Given, i am pissed off right now. This is a rant, i will take it down.

This was never meant to be a personal attack on anyone, but was more aimed at the entire situation, how its handled.

I just don't want to care anymore, its hard cos i love trail building as much as i love mountain biking. But ya, whats the point of being a trail builder with no trail to build?

 

Please don't dis Tokai, its my home turf and my feeling are very passionate about the place. All i want to go do, is late arvo missions with a mate or three for company. It really is the best place to clear the mind. We have waited long enough...."

For the rest, the majority of trails are finished and just getting some extra features on some areas courtesy of Shaun Havenga and Reto Mani and their trail crews. Early access is still a priority, but is being held up at national parks evel. Should have word soon on that.

 

Signage is ready and waiting, poles are being sunk tomorrow or Friday.

 

Early access, when granted, will be restricted to weekend only until official opening at the end of December (widely publicised by parks) at which point it will be full access to the trails.

 

Parks (local) are backing the early access, and pushing for it. Gavin Bell is in our court at the moment, requesting a quick solution from parks (National) so we can get in. Document to secure this is sitting on a desk in PTA, waiting for a signature

Unfortunately Pierre's rant is an expression of frustration. We've all been there and poor old Deon is usually on the receiving end of it.

 

Looking forward to Tokai opening up soon. Driving all the way out to Steilte or the brown belt to ride is getting a bit wearing.

Don't forget the price increase on the 1st November.  

I'd recommend not going to the Tokai office to get it though - that dude behind the counter seems to have a power complex and gives me uphill every time I go in there about something or other, and just yesterday wouldn't take my money to renew my permit.  I'll be going to Simonstown this weekend...

what's the story with being evasive about photography of the work?  Tokai build days have a history of pathetic advertising of the good work. It's not a new gadget being leaked for hype, it's a trail. So why the need to be 'evasive'? sounds dodgy, not enthralling.
