If you have your eyes on social media you will all know that pro trail builders have also been involved at Tokai with PPA funding. Casual labour has also been very busy doing trail clearing during the week with oversight by committee members. This has saved costs and got the job done as quickly as possible. Many hours have been put in by Tokai MTB members, especially Deon and Mark.

Dealing with SANP is tricky and frustrating in the extreme. Its not only them, its the environmental lobby as well. As a result the TokaiMTB committee has had to tread carefully with the rebuild.

There was certainly no intention to deprive desperate builders of their building fix. Having worked on some of the trails and seen pics of recent developments I am quite sure we will all be amazed at how the trails have been restored and improved in significant ways.

The only improvement that I'm wanting at this stage is to be able to actually ride there again...  :whistling:

Yep, I'd have settled for rebuilding the trails simply by riding them...

Whenever I attend build days I take pictures and post here. Nobody ever asked me not to and once or twice one of the committee members even asked me to take a picture of something specific.

Its all gone now though...Its been a month since I've been there. So would love to see whats been happening.

It's hard enough trying to make sense of the Sanparks system, now this...

I cannot tell you what to believe, you be the judge but I will tell everyone who has ever contributed again, thank you!

what's the story with being evasive about photography of the work?  Tokai build days have a history of pathetic advertising of the good work. It's not a new gadget being leaked for hype, it's a trail. So why the need to be 'evasive'? sounds dodgy, not enthralling.

I can honestly say I have no idea where the whole evasive thing comes from, first I have heard of anyone being told that.

On the other hand I have a crapload (pro photography term, honest...) of before and after pics of the work happening up there that I personally have been reluctant to post in case it encourages some complete cockwomble to break in and ride the trails, leading to another 30 minute moaning session from parks staff in the general direction of the first committee member to walk in front of their sights.

That said I will dig out some shots later and post them here, just don't expect too much as I'm a crap photographer.

I can offer a bit of perspective here.

It was a couple of things that Deon privately asked Pierre not to make public, or include in his photo stories of the trail work, in the more recent build days. The reasons were twofold:

Noel providing his own hype and deliberately going up there to ride the trails despite the area not being open to ride or run, and getting caught doing so (even having the cops around at TnT to serve a warrant of sorts for trespassing) as well as publicising info that just wasn't true

Other people sneaking in to ride the trails cos what they'd seen was awesome. Being chased by rangers yet getting away.

Given that it was so close to the promised but not delivered yet early opening, and 5 months to full opening, it was a request to tone down the progress reports a bit for fear of losing early access entirely.

Thats why there were only really "product shots" for Devils Peak Breweries in the last few builds. But Shaun seems to have kicked the Stoke bucket again with those posts over last week.

Let me make it clear. Pierre's photo epics were... Epic. His write ups were brilliant, and they provided (IMO) a good part of the fuel that led to build days being as full of volunteers as they were throughout the last 6 months or so. Or however long they lasted. I miss them, but I have a plan to revive them, if he's okay with me using his images.

Not this.

There were one or two patches of contentious soil being used on the track that the green mafia set out to give everyone a hard time about. Until we could rectify the issue (±100m) I asked that we avoid showing these pics. Pierre has always had free reign with his words but with one recommendation thrown in.. Is this an issue? I feel I should apologise.

FYI.. We rectified the soil issue.

I think this one line says it all. Thanks.

We are so busy preparing the place to try open early, there is even very little time to spend with our families. If by not hosting another build day after announcing the end of the regular builds has offended anyone, I really am sorry.

Some pictures then...

Boomslang started off like this, there are four or five people in this picture of the descent after the large rock...

A little while later from the drop side of the rock

Much work later it resembled this

Tomorrow I will add some from Snake Eyes, Puff Adder and Mamba.

thanks you three, for the three different responses  ^_^

I expanded on what Headshot mentioned and corrected Myles with the use of the words "tone down". There was no toning down, just a valid concern at the time.
