You're also missing his point...

I don't think so

the op assumed he knew what kasks policy was ...then found out it wasn't what he wanted it to be

so now he trashes the helmet that saved his head ..

I have replaced helmets thru kask.. the policy varies thru territories ...that's how it is

its life ..it isn't always  the way you want it to be no need to whine about it

First point, product did what it was designed for and well done to Kask as a really good product that probably save your life, I guess that's why you bought it.

There is a growing trend in SA by product wholesalers not to honour international warranties and offer a completely different view and service level in SA, even though they expect us to pay top dollar for their products.

Have been trying to get Specialized lights replaced under a world wide recall from Specialized SA, the number of stories and the run around I have received, has resulted in me choosing to support another brand and shop going forward. To me its no loss as I will still be riding my MTB or Road bike, it just won't be a s-works anymore.

Therefore the moral of my story is support those products and shops with your wallet as there are a lot good cycle shops and products out there, that actually do want your business and will honour their warranties.

My girl friend also cracked her Kask, I told her to get a Specialized helmet because I know they offer a 50% discount but she intern phoned the bicycle shop she bought the help from and asked if they also offer a discount, they said they do and she bought another helmet from them. I asked her how much did she pay, she said something like R2800 or something, I jumped on the net and found a few online retailers selling it for cheaper. So in short, I doubt she got any discount.

At 70.3 crashed  and fell directly onto my shoulder with the subsequent whiplash hitting my helmet on the road. The Kask Mojito did it’s job and protected my head from serious injury. The actual crash damage is insignificant and is a testimonial to the product.

However this is where the story goes bad. I approached the Retailer who phoned N Square. I was offered a new one for R3000 which is 20% off Retail. Now as far as I understand the Kask Crash replacement is 50% Internationally. So when this was mentioned  to the Retailer the reply from NSquared (The Distributor)  was that this is the offer and they refused to budge, their response was:

The crash replacement warranty is not something that is offered by Kask International, and that they  get no support from Kask on this matter,  and it is something that they as a company offer the market.  Each country obviously has their own discount which they offer their consumers,  and the 50% is therefore only applicable in that country that offers it. I approached Kask directly two weeks ago and have not even had the courtesy of a reply, similarly posted on Facabook and nothing.

So just be prepared that you are not going to get the backup and even the simple reply you expect from Kask. So in short-I wouldn’t buy a Kask helmet purely that I am paying for a product that has different rules for different countries but still paying a premium.

Did you check with the people you bought it from that it was indeed under the assumed International 50% warranty?

If a warranty, or replacement agreement forms part of the purchase criteria, one should always make sure, we check the price tags after all :)

If it was agreed on purchse that there was a 50% replacement agreement, then stick to your guns. If it was just assumed, then you know what they say about assumptions?? ;)

A good example is, I am keen on a new Scalpel, I would make sure that I get all stuff in writting from the local supliers (no names needed  ) before pulling the trigger, no matter what their international website says.

but also bad ventilation - your head sweat like mad in it

Really?! I love mine... so light and comfy and cool. I sweat a LOT and have certainly not noticed any excess leaking!

Interested to know why you think he is missing the point - seems a straightforward and knowledgable answer to me.  What is it that is wrong here?

Hi Wheelsuck

In answer to your post,  please can we explain to you the differences that often get confused.

1.  Warranty = replacement on defectively manufactured products - as per the Kask international site (see below)

WARRANTY

KASK S.p.a warrants that KASK products are free from defects in materials and workmanship as long as they are owned by the original purchaser. KASK will repair or replace such product or part thereof which, upon inspection by KASK is found to be defective in materials or workmanship. As a condition to the obligation of KASK to repair or replace such product, the product must be returned to KASK together with proof-of-purchase satisfactory to KASK. KASK, at their choice, chooses to repair or replace any KASK product covered by this warranty.

The proper Return Authorization must be obtained from KASK in advance of return. All returns must be accompanied by a written statement setting forth the name, address, and phone number of the owner, together with a brief description of any claimed defects. Parts or product for which replacement is made shall become the property of KASK. The customer shall be responsible for shipping cost to KASK s.r.l.

KASK shall use reasonable effort to repair or replace any KASK product covered by this limited lifetime warranty within thirty days of receipt. In the event when repair or replacement shall require more than thirty days, KASK shall notify the customer accordingly. KASK reserves the right to replace any product which has been discontinued from its product line with a new product of comparable value and function.

KASK DISCLAIMS ANY WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY SET FORTH HEREIN. THE SOLE OBLIGATION OF KASK UNDER THIS LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY SHALL BE TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE COVERED PRODUCT, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS SET FORTH HEREIN. KASK EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY, GENERAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHICH MAY RESULT FROM BREACH OF ANY WARRANTY OR ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE ANY KASK PRODUCT.

KASK reserves the right to modify or discontinue without prior notice any model of KASK product. If warranty problems arise, or if you need assistance in using your KASK product, please contact us at info@kask.it

NOTE: This warranty is valid only to customers who have purchased KASK products from an Authorized KASK Distributor and/or Dealer.

2. Crash Replacement Program = giving a discount on a replacement item that has been damaged in a crash.

As explained to you in our email last week, this is not a warranty issue as you have crashed with this helmet.   Kask International do NOT have a crash replacement policy however worldwide distributors can offer this at their own discretion,  it is not international procedure.

We however offer the stores a 20% discount off a replacement helmet,  and some dealers discount it further,  so in the the end, the end consumer can receive from 20 - 50% discount.  However,  due to the competitions commission,  we cannot enforce the pricing that the dealer offers you as this is in contravention of the CCA, and the other helmet brand agent mentioned has been found guilty of this recently.

Some consumers get confused that you get a 50% discount in the UK,  however that is offered at the UK distributors discretion, as they have different laws etc

Sorry that you expect a 50% discount and are not receiving it,  however we can put you in touch with a dealer that would be able to assist you.

So which brand has the best crash replacement policy ?

As I wrote earlier, my experience with Bell Helmets was painless. Apart from the actual pain of falling on my noggin.
