Hi All,

I recently bought a set of carbon road wheels from the classifieds section here. The seller said the wheelset was 100% perfect but when i received them i saw they had been repaired on both front and rear rims. Was not very happy with this but thought I would try them and see as some repair work can be very good. And yes, i did contact the seller to vent my frustration, no reply.

I rode them once and now I see one of the repairs has cracked open again.

What do I do in this case?

Joh!

Firstly, lets hear what the seller has to say.

secondly, post pics

thirdly, don't ride them.

If no response, name and shame.

Now that's the kind of seller one should try to avoid. The fact that the seller is a No Reply even more of a concern. Take previous advice and let all know.

This is when real names become useful. Then nobs won't come here and pull stunts knowing they can still remain anonymous.

Not saying guilty before the trial, but ... hope there's a good ending here.

Eishhhh. Not lekka to hear!

Please post pics as mentioned!

Better to get some more context. Was the price you paid relative to the wheels having been repaired or closer to normal market value? When did the sale happen and how long have you had the wheels? When did you contact the seller to inform him of the repair failing? How long since you last had contact with the seller where he engaged with you in return?

(Before you name him, it would make sense to give him an opportunity to do the right thing of his own accord. If that has already happened and he is obviously and deliberately avoiding you, then it would be wiser to name and allow others to know his trading behaviour!)

Looks like one should stay away from secondhand carbon stuff. If you can't buy new, save until you can.

Am I wrong?

That's not a bad point to make. Or ... considering this post, until you can trust the seller???

Even if I know and trust the seller I still don't think I'd trust a second hand carbon product, especially a repaired one.

I wouldn't trust repaired carbon either, but I think in this case the buyer didn't know it was repaired?

you need to be very careful when purchasing here...

https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/203774-ultegra-di2-11-speed-shifters/

advertised as "new"...thought  I would save myself the hassle of importing levers...slightly more expensive...but a saving on taxes and duties.

when i asked about the scratches on the side of the lever(looked like they had taken a slide down the road)...and the packaging...considering they are advertised as new...i was told he would change the ad and reduce the price.

i would request pics of the actual levers before you pay over your money

There are many things I'd buy remotely and ship over to CT. Carbon isn't one. I'd never buy repaired carbon either, if the seller isn't backing the repair enough to keep it (even though they are usually advertised as being repaired by the best guy around and 'doesn't effect the ride) then I'm pretty sure I don't want it.

In this case it looks like the seller didn't say it was repaired which is pretty bad. OP: do you have a copy of the original advert (a a screen grab), it it still online or was it deleted? Would like to see what the phrasing of the advert was.

I'd ask the mods to maybe try to contact this guy and maybe use that 'shepard' service or the one that is linked to The Hub. Kinda Escrow thing.
