Hold on here a minute.

Do I understand correctly that you want to put gears onto a single speed. Does not make sence to me - gears=singlespeed?

Sory, I don't get it. Get another bike.

Must be missing something here.

Get another bike for one event?...

The street cred isn't worth all the sweat.

The SS i sold Super T. He did the Argus on it.

One photo of his medal over the rear hub and now the bike has gears on.

Once the purist novelty wears off you will succumb to gears too.

In the meantime I have a rear sprocket you could try out.

I look forward to watching you ***.

It's about the flow, man.

Also, spoken like a true mate.

Watching him *** with gears on is enjoyment enough. I want tickets to this bout!

Thank you for all the informative replies, as well as the offers of assistance from V12 and Dirt Rider.

As for certain replies, It's clear on this forum that you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

The only thing I will say more about this is that, if I was flush with cash I would not hesitate for one second to get myself a light as a feather bike with as much gears as I can slap on the rear freebody.

After the day I had, I seem to be getting worked up about nothing, so I will stop posting and rather not share my thoughts.

Nah man. Don't let it get to you. Sit down, light your braai and pour a whiskey.

There's simply no very cheap way to do it. IMO skollie's suggestion is the best, but then I've never had to convert a horizontal dropout bike to be able to accept gears and I could be wrong. And I certainly don't have the power to drive a 1x all over the place.

Would you not be able to borrow a mates bike? Seriaas question. If not, good luck man.

Consider the advice you've received from your post. Don't let the cretinous comments prevent that. It's the same contributors across multiple threads. Ignore them.

Hahaha, I have all the parts I need. Just need a frame and a fork, which I am still looking for. It has to be a very cheap alu frame.

The single speed is gonna be my ride around, go to shop, hit a trail now and again.

As far as Ka*&^ing, well maybe in the beginning, then again maybe not. But I do know that once I am fit enough, I should be able to rip hoogekraal with it.

My son rides his bmx more than his mtb. His reasoning, its simple and easy - no gears.

Made me think when I had mine so basically wanna build an oversized bmx, cylcocross straight handlebar single speed hybrid type bike with tyres no wider than 2.2
