I bougt a set of Maxxis UST Tyres from CWC,

On the description when buying them said Maxxis will not be liable for any damages when using ammonium based sealants with them

I also looked, and there seems to be alot of threads about this problem combining these two together(especially Stans)

Now my question is which sealant is not ammonium based and available locally?

The only thing I could find online was Joe's eco sealant..not sure if anyone would stock it in SA?

Please help

I used Stans in Maxxis Ardents for over a year with no discernible damage when I took them off to fit grippier tyres. 18 months on I have just refitted those tyres to another wheelset and they are holding pressure.

Ammonia can however damage rims and brass spoke nipples so make sure the rims are properly taped.

You can run your UST tyres without sealant if they are fitted to a UST rim and just carry plugs for fixing punctures....but sealant works better.

Thanks for the info

Makes me feel like just taking a chance with normal sealant

The price of sealant scares me....  Paid R199-00 for 1000ml of Joes

My dad paid R299-00 6 months ago for 1000ml of Joes

I turned round and decided to fit tubes when I spotted the R450-00 price tag for 1000ml of Joes last week.

And when you get a puncture you'll be kicking yourself again. Maybe

A couple of years ago various diy sealant recipes were floating around. I reckon it won't be long before people start making potions again.

I've tried many different sealants, and I still go back to stans for sealant. Whenever I see them on special or on sale I usually buy a bottle. Its non perishable, and I know I have backup for that Friday 9pm tyre change that usually bites you.

Sludge All - Terrain is ammonia free. The one in the orange box, great sealant.

LBS's here in Durban don't know what this.  I have been looking for it for ages.  Unavailable locally.

Eventually went for the stuff motorbikes use.  So far, so good.................?

I believe any latex bassed sealant will use a small amount of ammonia to stabilize the latex - i looked at the Stans Material safety data sheet and it does not even mention Ammonia.
