Cradle Incident: Know this cyclist?

Problem is this oxygen thief is perceived a cyclist, so to those who don't know believe this is how most of us behave...unfortunate really. I just hope that the general public and motorists realise that there is always one d**s in a fourball that spoils it for everyone else, and generally we are not such a bad fraternity.

I hope they realise that this is not a cycling/cyclist problem but rather a human being problem, and this sad creature lacks the basic skills of being human. I mean can you actually imagine behaving like that? It's bottom feeders like this that give me less faith in our race....

I think that this guy must be identified by his fellow cyclists and made to answer for his transgressions.

I cannot believe that someone on The Hub does not know this person. If you do, come forward and get the process moving forward if it has not already been done. We as a community should ensure that we out these exceptions.

This type of behaviour cannot be condoned by a 'human being' and he has now taken the perception of 'cyclists' to an all time low.

As I said yesterday, I saw what happened from the beginning. This guy was in the wrong and seriously so. Whatever the lady did wrong (giving her all the benefit of the doubt) that lead to the incident, nobody should be allowed to punch a woman in the face with fists, four times.I know that eventually and to literally get him off the lady, a cyclist picked up the moron's bike and donnered him into submission and temporary sanity. This was when he got onto the bike and rode off.

This is also why the perpetrator should be found and be made an example of, because he does not represent my sport and my gender. I sincerely hope that the van Heerdens are able to get him charged and convicted.

Yes please, I'm willing to testify as an eyewitness of the incident.

If your crusade is to taint all cyclists a$$holes, you are doing a good job, thanks!

I hope that some angry farmer doesnt run me over this weekend because he is now "gatvol van die fietsryers!"

Could,'t agree more

And the problem with that article "Fietsryer clap vrou" its all about perception, and we just got bundled into the same category as this POS.

I really hope you manage to find and prosecute the guy. And I don't even have an issue with an article properly headed. But if you put a headline 'Vietsrye klapped vrou' atleast also put 'Heroic cyclist beats other cyclist with his own bike' to get a vaguely balanced view of us. The dipshit doesn't represent 99 percent of us.

So is DIPSLICK the oke in the picture?

NO. DIPSLICK was mistaken.

The guy in the picture is well dressed and looks in good shape.

On the Kromdraai FB page, Mr Jan Vermaak comments that DIPSLICK has identified himself as the culprit..... This man clearly has no sense of humour.

It was a joke, Jan. A very serious topic, but a joke nonetheless.

As a cyclist, and motorist who gets regularly pissed off with errant cyclists (and one who witnessed the disgusting incident first hand), I suggest that Jan and his friends open the FB group to cyclists as well - at the moment all we have are a bunch of motorists illegally taking photos while driving, and winding themselves up.

A one-sided conversation won't solve the problem. BTW Jan, I agree with your sentiments re the cyclist in the photo. If you find him, donner him.

Fokkit Jan Vermaak. Relax jou blixemse panty man.

Personally I won't ride in big groups. Four is my max and two or three my normal. At least 75% of my riding is done solo. Only been mugged once so I don't think it's a big deal.

While we are on the thing about keeping to the laws of the road and stopping at stop signs and red lights please consider the following.

It is illegal to drive in convoy unless permission has been requested from and granted by the traffic police. That means every group ride by cycle lab or whoever is technically against the law. Going for a ride with 10 mates is breaking the law. For all the self righteous people in their nice big groups having a go at a single cyclist skipping a red light think about that. I can tell you that most of the aggravation with cyclists is caused by groups. People in groups are idiots. It's like everyone stops thinking when the group gets to a certain size.

(I posted this is the other Cradle incident thread. I should probably have posted it here....)

Well I suppose a parallel approach would be to form a FB page covering hit & miss / near misses etc, but that might be considered adversarial? Probably better if an educational, inclusive approach could be developed, but I'm at a loss to suggest what that would be.

We all believe - residents, land-owners, 'protectors', cyclists, drivers, commuters, motorcyclists (not much mentioned about these guys?) - that we have a right to use the Cradle, and in fact we all do as the roads are public. But all parties are not blameless, yet we all (almost) naturally adopt an adversarial approach, or in reference to the Kromdraai FB group, we do tit-for-tat comments. Out on the road, it's even worse if you feel that someone tried to kill you with his car whilst you were cycling, or some cyclist smacked someone around.

In order to get past the tit-for-tat comments/actions stage, does anyone have any suggestions how to defuse, and then build a positive situation out in the Cradle? Campaigns? Revised roadsigns? Leaflet drop? Public meeting

I'm not anti-groups, but herd-mentality is a real phenomena.
