Hey Morne I see you are next to me. As the 3rd and 4th last bikes on the racks I’d say we are pretty lucky. I’m looking forward to a bike free 700m jog past all the congestion.

Just been to rack my run bag and check out the new T2 bike entrance and curb that was briefly mentioned at race briefing.  Is a standard road curb that we have to try and get over as we come off the road and turn right into the T2 area.  No construction work with either a ramp or dropping the curb has been done, which I find surprising.  Am sure some will try to bunny hop it and I expect a lot of chaos at this point as is a narrow entrance. The new entrance is about 50m from the dismount line.... be aware of this guys!!

Swim times look slow, conditions must be poor or the ppl I am following are chilling

It was strange, conditions were about as perfect as could be expected but I was a minute or two slower than I expected. Same goes for a few others I know.

Everything was slow, that wind today was a killer, was 8mins slower on the bike leg and felt in my legs on the run which was also 3mins slower than last year (was targeting to be 7mins faster on the run, but not to be, wind on the bike leg just sapped everything).

Finished in 5:34hrs, 9mins slower than last year and left everything out on the course!! Today was a tough one and am feeling it now!!

Well done to all those that finished, especially the first timers, the medal was well earned today!!

Well that didn't go as hoped! Whoever claims that Durban is an easy race is a liar!! Or else I just race it wrong!!

That wind was nasty and a bit of current on the swim.

I had loads of little issues throughout the race but struggled home in 5:52. The swim felt like it was going well until I saw my time at 37min, I was hoping for 32! Started cramping in the neutral on the bike while trying to get my shoes on, so knew I was in for a rough time. But hey, lessons learnt and I got my tour medal, so happy days!!

Hope you guys had a better time of it!

Well done everyone!

Seems like it was a lot harder than you made it look ????

Don’t underestimate what an awesome thing you’ve just accomplished (even if you were hoping for a bit more).

Well done everyone!

It is suppose to be hard, thats what makes it worthwhile :-)

Like i said to my dad the day before PE for my first, if it was easy EVERYBODY would do it!!

Well done to all and for the first timers, enjoy the memories and "probably" the start of your new journey in life.

Does not help making it harder for oneself with lackluster training since IMSA and having flu 10 days before the event.  Winging it in that wind was hard work lol... so happy with my time and collecting the tour series medal :)

As said, yesterday was slower than usual, but can confirm that it could be (partly) due to the fact that the swim was NOT 1900m. Everybody I know, including some past pro's, clocked in around 2100m. So that's around 10% more, making for an extra 10% in time too.

It was fun though!

Lol! Exactly my thoughts! It was my first Durban race, and was told by everyone that it was easy compared to midlands, PE or East London. Look out for a PB, they said! Having done 05:18 in Midlands, I hoping for a sub 5!!!! Well... not exactly... I AGAIN got a spot on 05:18.

I blame the wind.... and transitions from HELL. Lol! Seriously, it was a good race. No complaints.

Well done to everybody who completed, or even just pitched up.... there was a lot of open bike spots.

Our entire group clocked 2100-2200m.  It's normal to clock a little long, historically I've measured very close to 2000m each time.  I assume it's because my lines aren't very efficient.

At the very first 5150 Ekurhuleni the big red buoys blew out in severe wind overnight and they didn't bother to measure again the next morning.  We all recorded 1900-2000m that day (vs standard Olympic 1500m).  They did apologize afterwards.

Perhaps something similarly silly occurred in Durban.  Or they recorded the distance while the tide was lower?  Must say I'll take a few extra 100m in the Ocean over the same in Germiston Lake any day

My only complaint from yesterday was the waiting game that happened at the beach start. I waited for over 45 minutes (at least) in the +30min batch.

I understand that the reason was to reduce congestion in T1 - but waiting that long for winds to pick up was very frustrating. would prefer to battle the crowds in T1.

Or move T1 onto the beach with plastic flooring like they do at concerts in stadiums?
