Sorry Eddy, the world is a bit slow on a TUEsday.  :whistling:

In my world, dibs gives the buyer 12 hrs to pay

After that, the privilege and entitlement that comes with this claim forfeits.

in my world , " dibs"  is a word you use to try and scare me off when you dont have the money and have to ask your mo for it...Money first , the rest can go dibs elsewhere... as always cash is King.

Easy if I really want it I "DIBS " it with a transfer and hope to hell its what was advertised, to me the ratings work, if there is a Hubber who has decent ratings or one of the hubbers I know know the seller DIBS by EFT

It's worked for me over the years

really, dont have the money ? Is that the only reason you can think of? Money ? What about someone needing to make sure it is the right size? Or they see something well priced but need to confirm damages? This is not gumtree, it is the Hub.  Or do you fall into the category that will take the money and say to the buyer sorry for you if it is to big or small, you should have checked first ? I do see your point, but then you leave no room for communication.

Besides this, there are several things that come into play. But mostly it is about communication. If I as a buyer ask for first option, you as the seller either need to say to me, sorry no, this is first come first serve. Or as I have mostly experienced, the seller will say sure no worries you have first option till tomorrow. Most times its along the lines of, sorry you are number 50 in the que, when your comes up I will let you know.

BIG EDIT: KingTJ, I see on your profile you have never sold anything on the Bikehub. Meaning all your dealings are on other sites. In which case dibs means nothing. Cash is king. But that is not how things roll on this forum.

all fine and good.

What happens where someone just posts "Dibs" absent any communication with the seller, or any first option agreement? This is what the OP posted about all the way back on page 1.  Do you think they should have some sort of special entitlement just for having had the fastest finger first?

If you don't make contact then you're not actually buying. I think that situation is fairly common sense. Dibs kind of works if you dibs and then send a message, get the details and go about the transaction. I don't think any one would get a dibs and sit for a week palming off everyone and waiting for the guy to get in touch.

Agree. All so logical. Can't see why there are such a tizz about "dibs".

Admit it puts me off making an inquiry if I see dibs, feeling I'm intruding on someone else's deal, but agree if the potential buyer does no more than dibs, it's "No sale".

Strangely enough, I've never had anyone call DIBS on my ads

I ask them to PM ME directly

Pretty much ignore any other comments that is public

The Private Message reflects serious intention and interest to deal/buy/transact

this +1... Pm means I'm serious . Most public messages are just noise .

I have held a stem and handlebar for 2 weeks for a guy who wanted it but only on pay day.

WHY? Because he communicated via pm and phone call and seemed genuinely legit. True to his word end of the month he bought it . This is the hub and most ppl here are genuine down to earth people.

And to be honest I would rather sell something to someone who won't or can't buy new and is looking for a genuine decent deal . Salt of the earth ppl .

My opinion is dibs went out the window when you moved on to high school.

If you still using the word dibs on a forum such as this then you obviously have not grown up and you are on this site counting teeth as the adults would say.

I called "dibs" on a garmin. Then smsed the seller and sent him a whatsapp just to get added to a whatsapp group with 4 other guys and the seller stating that he cant sell it to anyone of us so out of respect we can bid on the item on his group. So BS to his auction and BS to dibs
